Mk5 GTI Buzzing

Well, I unlocked the car, opened the door and heard a buzzing noise. I started it up, still buzzing. I thought it was the fuel pump or something like that.

Anyway, I've shut it off, started it up again and it's always there, with ignition on or off. It even carries on after I've locked the car. I presume it will shut off eventually...... but it hasn’t yet!

After a listen in the rear it's coming out of both rear speakers... It doesn't fluctuate with revs or anything like that, just a constant, fairly loud buzz (annoying! )

Anyone know what's going on? Or how to cure it? It's a 57 ED30 if that helps.

I've no idea what's causing this but I suspect that you'll have a flat battery tomorrow morning. Might be worth a call to VW assist. At least you'll get a courtesy car to get to work in if they cannot fix.

Does your sound system have an amplifier wired in?

Remove / replace the fuse for the Stereo?

Well it seemed to have stopped after a blast. Apparently it's happened before but I didn't know about it!

I'm guessing it's a dodgy wire somewhere so it's going into the garage (for them to tell me theres nothing wrong).

This may be a daft question, but does your car have xenons and auto lights?

There is a faint buzzing when the xenons are on -could this be the problem

It does... but it really does buzzz, it's not a slight hummm, this is like static on a radio turned up to about 12-13 and it's only coming out the rear speakers.
