Waylander
On 2 occasions now i have discovered that my vaio has seemingly turned itself on: first time I noticed was coming back from holiday - machine was fully charged when I left but was 100% drained when I got home. When I hooked up to power I got the "windows did not shut down properly last time" message. Then a couple of days ago I charged it again and just turned it on to find that it popped out of hibernation. The machine has been kept in the same laptop bag it has always been kept in. Anyone got any ideas to account for this odd behaviour?
Paul
Early sign of a power button starting to fail? If its away in the laptop bag, there is not much else that can start it, like Wake up on lan etc
Waylander
it has also just occured to me that the account is [suposedly] password protected so even if the machine switched itself on it shouldn't have gotten to the desktop by itself. The darned thing is only 4 weeks old!
Paul
Did you definitely see it shut down fully before putting it away?
jimbutler
If it is windows fister it usually goes into standby rather than a proper shutdown (or at least the fister laptop I have just offloaded via ebay does). It may be you are in suspend/standby using a small amount of power, so that when the battery eventually dies it can't resume normally and reports it as not shutting down properly. That's my 2p Jim
Waylander
[ QUOTE ] Did you definitely see it shut down fully before putting it away? [/ QUOTE ] yes. I thought the first time round that it might have gone into suspend so actually waited for it to turn off before closing the lid and putting it away last time.
