Removing Layers of Wax

HI Dibbs,

There is a couple of ways to do this:

If your going to clay then this will physically remove 99% of the LSP from the car, its possible the pores of the paintwork wont be cleaned out fully though.

A product with cleaning properties will also remove the product, whether thats an abrasive product or a chemical cleaner like HD Cleanse, Poorboys Pro Polish, Dodo Lime Prime etc.

You could use fairy, however it can have a detrimental effect on things like the black plastic strips and rubber on the car.

You could also make a strong mix of car soap and APC. However, i presume you will most likely be applying a paintwork cleaner or polish so that should take care of the old protection.

Washed the car yesterday with a strong mix of Chem Guys Citrus Wash n Gloss then it was clayed.

Followed on then for 7 hours with polishing, glazing and a final coat of Wolfgang sealant................looks superb.

Arms hurting today though, so I think a G220 machine is order soon !

In early spring each year, I take off all the layers of wax/polish & contamination using HD Cleanse. I then Claybar all the body, touch in any stone chips and then starting to build back the layers over the year, starting with Zymol Ital Glaze (looking @ the price, I may change this once my present pot runs out!). Throughout the year I then wash/wax as normal.

I do believe strongly that the above process enhances the cars natural beauty.

As above wouldnt the Clay give you the desired results....

Clay doesnt keep the pores of the paintwork clean they can still be full of old product and a contamination which can reduce looks and reduce bonding. The clay is for above the surface issues only and most products go deeper then that.

Dibbs the car sounds like its going to be looking a winner the Wolfgang glaze is great on silver, we need pics!

Sounds like a plan! How long does Ital need between top ups? It seems like some people have this on Ebay for just more then Concours and it doesnt sell so it seems to be at around £150 and i that seems like a deal.

Geoff, I like to use it twice a year, the car is garaged, and only comes out in the summer months, but usually around Mid-August, I like to give it a second layer. My pot cost me <>£90 4 years ago, so I've had my moneys worth from it! What I love, is the fact that you put it on with your fingers, so you can feel any imperfections, and take any last minute action required! Ital seems to retail @ £350, so I may replace this with Concours or Rouge, after all, I only do it for my enjoyment, not like you guys, earning a living from it.

£90 thats a bargain as you say a new 8oz container is probably about 4 times that much! I can vouch for Concours being great. As for the rouge, it seems to be mainly for single stage paints ie. those with no clear coat.

I only detail for enjoyment too!
