njadve
I have been thinking about doing this for such a long time now, and it was certainly about time now. This is a -99 Skoda Pickup, which has rolled 75000 km. It was actually so matte and dull that i tought it was beyond rescue... I started to wash it yesterday, giving it plenty of time to dry up. Using AG Bodywork Conditioner Shampoo for the first time I was actually surprised. I´m going to use this a lot more in the coming time. I don´t have any pictures from this... Then i started today with AG Paint Renovator, which I really didn´t think would do the job, but it was just brilliant. Here is a picture from what it looked like before I started: Here is also a picture of the difference after I had polished half the bonnet: Here is another one, after doing the drivers door: I know the Makita-polisher is lies right next to the car, but I actually did all the polishing and waxing by hand. I didn´t have the right equipment for the polisher, so it got a break today... When I was finished with the AG Paint Renovator I used a Turtle Wax Super Hard Shell wax, which isn´t my first choice to be honest, but it was the only thing I had available. I could have used the AG Extra Gloss, but I don´t think it lasts as long as the Turtle. I applied to layers of wax overall, and here is the final pictures... Th paintwork isn´t tiptop. There is a bit of rust that I´ll have to do something with during the summer, and there is some nasty yellow spots where there has been rust earlier. I like to think it actually did get better, and even tough it isn´t perfect, it looks ok when you consider that it´s just my workcar... Edit: I can also add that this car of course doesn´t have a layer of clearpaint, so it´ll never be as shiny and beautiful as cars with clearpaint... steelwind101
Hello!! Thats excellent work, you had alot of oxidation to remove! Did you do it by hand or by them machine that is in the pic? You said that you will never get the gloss b/c the car has only single stage paintwork, ie. to clearcoat. That isnt stricktly true, you dont have a super glossy finish b/c AG Paint Renovator isnt a very versatile product. You need to find a light abrasive polish (PB's SSR2, Sonus second step, Megs #80, 4 Star SMR, Optimum Polish) and put that on a polishing pad to remove the mircomarring from the AG Paint Renovator. As the light abrasive breaks down it will highly polish the finish and give you that gloss effect that you are looking for. Dont forget to polish the rims and protect them! You maybe find that durable natural wax like Collinite will give you wetter deep finish then synthetic product on that colour. Great work! njadve
Thank you all for your comments... @ steelwind101: Yes, I could probably get it even more glossy with a round with polish, that´s true. I did everything by hand since I didn´t have the right pads for my polisher...
bpsmith
Nice work fella. This forum is not only for those with expensive rides remember and it s always nice to see pics form someone proud of their work too! I agree with Geoff, Single Stage paint can actually be polished better than clearcoat with the right products, and that is why most American Hot Rod's are done with this type of paint!
