J6ORDS
Hi guys, first time ive visited/posted on the VW forums. Heres a question for the GTI owners among you. Did any of you consider an A3 1.8T? If so, what were your thoughts/reasons for choosing a VW?
Pincher
Mmmm, I'd be interested to know as well. I had a A3 1.8T and am now considering the same in a Golf.
fatcat
I assume we are talking about the Mk IV golf here..... The Mk IV Golf GTI was only 115bhp and a bit wheezey to say the least...... The A3 1.8T is 150bhp However are you getting the GTI mixed up with the Golf 1.8T, then again you have got the Golf Anniversary which was 180bhp.......... need I go on ! Anyway, I would pick the Golf 1.8T above the A3 1.8T, more boot space.
Pincher
Pete, i keep seeing them adverstised as GTi Turbo. Is that not correct then? More boot space y'say *strokes chin*. Exactly what I'm looking for. Any ideas about rear seat space?
loddrik
I had a 1.8T and drove the equivalent Golf, have to say the Audi felt better to drive, not to mention the prestige badge.
Bora_SE
the MKIV golf GTI has appeared in various guises so far: 2.0 8v 115bhp 1.8 20v 125 bhp 1.8 20v Turbo 150 bhp 1.8 Turbo 180 bhp (20th Anniversary & standard model).
fatcat
Cheers Bora for the list... I owned the Golf 1.8T and for what it was, it was a good car, enough space in the car for 5 adults + luggage for a 3 day trip to Brugge, messy but we all fitted in Both cars have now been run out, for my secondhand money I would go for the Golf everytime. R32North
I owned an A3 1.8T prior to my R32 and I loved the car but take away the shell and its essentially the same car as the Golf. Golf will depreciate a wee bit more as Audi's hold their value better.... mine was almost 3 years old, 40k, needing some work done, rear brakes fecked and dealer still gave me 61% of purchase price for trade in...... its also Grp 14 ins, where as Golf with GTi badge is grp 15. In saying that as 2nd hand option the Golf is a better buy as the price will be lower so same money will buy a newer one!! have fun, whichever you go for!! [/ QUOTE ] Hi mate - I had an anniversary for a while and was a very good car, 180bhp, plenty go (faster than my standard 225 TT) and my other half used to use it to go down to brighton for the weekend with 3 or 4 mates and there girly luggage of doom, so plenty room i'd say.
