Mr Dillinga
Hey guys, I've become aware of a 'creaking' type noise during normal driving which sounds like its just behind and above my head (3-door). Today, I went into a multi-storey carpark and noticed that once the window was down, the noise stopped! Experimenting, I've found that auto-close doesn't still leaves a tiny mm of travel left which requires a manual prod of the button. This makes things slightly better but the problem is still there.. I had a look and it appears to be where the top of the window is held in place by the material on the inside of the door which keeps moisture out - the seal. I cleaned a load of crap out but I can pretty much make the noise by pressing the material myself.. Just wondering if anyone here has experienced this and done anything about it. Also, on a slightly separate matter - I bought my car from a dealer 100+ miles away.. Can I expect to go to my local dealer with this as a problem under the manufacturers warranty? Thanks in advance! petsy
if you car is still under warranty then you can use any vw dealer to try to sort out the problem.
Snoopy
Forgetting the window height for the moment. Rubber does what you say creak with age as it dries out abit. All the dealer will do is spray some silicon spray on the area to fix it. What i use is autoglyms vinyl and rubber care. (White bottle yellow label) sprayed onto a cloth and every so often clean the rubbers. It often happens on 3 door cars due to the weight of the door moving slightly on the rubber as you go along the road.
Mr Dillinga
Thanks for the replies gents. It maybe that the silicone treatment spray I tried over the weekend has improved things now that its had time to bed in. Not that I've had time to notice as the windows have been down to soak up the summer weather! Will keep you posted on my progress! Cheers
