Tarmac_Terrorist
At long last the weather allowed me to apply my panel pot of Dodo Supernatural this morning. Perfect conditions, bright but not sunny and about 16 degrees. It was in May that I applied ClearKote handglaze and topped off with a couple of coats of CK nuba wax. Since then the car has been garaged and only covered about 500 miles. I therefore took the decision not to polish / use a paint cleaner but to just apply a couple of coats of Dodo SN on top (after a thorough wash and dry). This was the first time I had used a Dodo wax and wasn't totaly sure about curing times before buffing off etc. I was applying the wax by hand using a Megs foam applicator and removing / buffing with Poorboys ultra ultra plush mf towels, which were incidently the best MF's I have ever used. I even prefer them to the Sonus MF's I have. I applied the wax a panel at a time and left on for about 10 minutes before removing. The wax was easier to apply than I expected although to get even coverage, it had to be very slightly worked. Not much smell to this stuff - just a slight pleasant beeswax / honey scent! Removing the wax was also much easier than expected. I used the shorter nap side of the MF before buffing further with the plusher longer fibre side. I would have ideally liked to leave a day between layers but I have such little time for these things, the best I could do was allow 50 - 60 minutes at least between the first layer and the 2nd layer. None the less, I'm confident that I could see the difference for the extra layer - much stronger, clearer, crisper reflections. So what are my thoughts having admired the finished result? Well, there's no denying it looks very good. I would personally describe it as a very deep glossy and very reflective finish. But i'm not quite 100% sure it looks better than the Clearkote Carnauba hand wax. I 'think' 'perhaps' the CK wax left a slightly deeper, wetter look. I find it very difficult to come to a proper conclusion until i've seen the car in various light; sunlight, late afternoon sunlight and perhaps a dull day. When it's just bright outside I tend to think most finishes look more reflective. I called Mrs TT out for her verdict. Immediately she was concinced that it was the best the car has ever looked and visibly better than any previous Autoglym or Clearkote finishes. So what do I know eh?! As I usually QD the car after each wash, I guess this will help provide a wetter look if necessary. On a side note, is 10 - 15 minutes about right to leave the wax on before buffing off? and, would it seiously affect durability having applied a 2nd layer at least 50 - 60 mins after the first? The car will now be left in the garage without being used for 3 days which should help the wax cure nicely. Apologies no pics - lack of time chaps unfortunately
ahaydock
Glad you liked it I find all the Dodo's easy to apply and remove. If it came off easy enough then your cure time is fine. I find about 10 minutes to be right. 50-60 minutes should be OK between layers, although longer is better. Dom at Dodo told me to aim for about an hour if I can. Was this Version 1 or Version 2 of Supernatural out of interest?
steelwind101
Hello! Great to hear you got it applied, it suoer easy to get on and off! Im glad you are impressed by it, its a great wax! Nice to hear the PBs ultra ultra plush towels worked out. When i first for them i thought the plush side was just TOO plush to do anyhting but it gives a great buff. The short is very effective at removing residue. Im not sure why they recommend waiting between layers? Maybe its oils may leak, i dont know i dident find it very oily it. It should flash quite quickly and cures straight away as there are no polymers in it. Waiting 10-15 mins to wipe off a wax is often best judge by how easy it comes off on the day! Some products do suggest using WOWO (wipe on wipe off) b/c they can set hard and become a paint to remove! Most often with synthetic products you often need to give them time to "set up". This is where the product makes its first bonds with the paintwork, "the carrier" at this point "flashes" which is when you see a haze. The haze is the carrier and excess products, the carrier maybe a solvent, extra oils etc etc, that make the product mobile and applyable. If you have an oily product you might find that if you wipe it off too soon then you get left with steaks or not quite a great shine. Nothing that wont be washed away after the next wash of course! Curing is somewhat instant with a staight up nuba wax, it doesnt bond with your paintwork. Some Zymol waxes tend to leak a bit of oil and often the instructions interchange the word "cure" to mean wait longer. LOL. I agree, the second layer on my car did make a difference to looks! TT get some pics loaded up when you get a chance! I would love to see this product on red. The Clearkote Nuba wax has unique look which looks esp. good on solid colours. As you noticed, there is a distinct difference in the virtues between CK and Supernatural wax! I reckon with your low miles and garaged car it will last a long time, even more so if you put it away clean. Geoff

Tarmac_Terrorist
Your right guys, i'll get some pics in the next day or two! Maybe the light levels will be better tomorrow I was working from home today and couldn't resist taking an extra hour for lunch and applying a 3rd coat. Surprisingly, there is still just a little left in the panet pot. It is the old Supernatural version I bought - at least I assume so as I bought it almost 3 month ago. However, I may just be tempted to buy a full sized pot of the new 'more durable' version. Geoff, it's interesting to hear how the wax's work. When your putting time and effort into doing these things, it's nice to know if you are applying them correctly to get the best out of the product. Useful info, thanks

steelwind101
W00T! Now thats some pics! The GTI looks awesome, so wet and red! The second from last pic, the boot lip looks dripping! What ever you are using the black parts really compliments the wet look of the paintwork. The alloys are looking great, what are you using on them? Good attention to detail on the grey part of inner wheel in the second pic. IM sure it looks very bright and red in the sun? Thanks for sharing! Tarmac_Terrorist
Thanks Geoff, I use AG SRP and a couple of coats of EGP on the wheels. In the winter I apply the EGP after almost every wash as these polished and lacquered type wheels are prone to corrosion as you're probably aware. On the black plastic trim I use either AG vinyl and rubber care or sometimes the AG green trim gel (forget the name). I haven't detailed the black trim for a little while though. The AG trim / plastic products seem to stick well. I use the megs endurance tyre gel on the tyres but sometimes then wipe with a damp cloth after allowing a drying period to remove some of the 'bling'. I will probably look to get a G220 early next year as I haven't previously machine polished the car, although, there is only very minimal swirling so i'm in no rush. Thats a great combo on the black plastic! Rubbing some the "bling" down on the tyres looks nice, i think the wheels look great! They are different to most of the wheels you get on cars in the UK. I always wanted some of the American style exposed chrome or smiliar as they look so good polished up. I dont think the road salt in the winter would mean they last all that long though. You will love the G220, even though you have minimal swirls it will "jewel" up the finish and remove a micro haze you wont see until you start polishing half a panel. Now you need to take your car somewhere and let people admire it while you look out the window yourself! Geoff

Tarmac_Terrorist
Even on plastic trim! I haven't tried it directly on plastic trim, although i did catch the edges to ensure total paint coverage. I'll give it a go next time
