Finally got around to cleaning my car............

Through lack of time (and sheer laziness :() I have been putting off giving my car a proper clean, but with the bank holiday weekend upon us, I felt that I had to make the effort.

For those of you that are interested, here's the process I undertook:

Rinse with pressure washer (to remove bulk of dirt)

Wash with Meguiars Gold Class Shampoo

Clay Bar

Rinse with pressure washer

Meguiars Crystal Polish

Dodo Lime Prime

Dodo Blue Velvet Wax

Turtle Wax Wet n' Black (tyre dressing)

Turtle Wax Glass Cleaner

Autosol exhaust polish

I wouldn't normally have bothered with the Crystal polish, but was trying to use up an old bottle!

For what it's worth, it was very hard work, but the car is looking stunning!!

For the experts on here, I'd be interested in any comments on the approach I used (and what i should have done!!).

Is it worth trying to put another coat of the Dodo wax onto the car?

Hi Sidicks!

IM sure its looking great, PICS PICS PICS!!

I would add another layer of DODO juice the next time i wash the car, this will ensure that every where is covered in wax and some little parts are not missed.

The rest of your setup looks great, things like tyre colour is all down to personal taste really. The only thing i can say is that the Megs Deep Cystal Polish is just oils, no cut. Lime Prime would have removed the oils just saves you some time for the next detail!

Thanks Geoff, but it's a bit intimidating adding pictures when everyone else's cars look perfect.....

Here are some pics, not sure how to upload them into the post, and in any case, they are quite large!

Sidicks, great to see the pics, you shouldent feel intimidated your car looks excellent, Sharp reflections and great gloss as well!

Im sure most people would love the car even it wasnt detailed! Keep it up, the exhaust have come up really shiney! YOu can always protect them a bit more by putting a synthetic product like Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection on them as it will with stand the heat.

Thanks for sharing!

Hi Sidicks,

Great pics! (and great car!!) Hope you don't mind me bringing them forward.

It's very rewarding to take time to admire the results after the hours spent detailing - thanks for sharing +++

I'm sure the car looks even more impressive close up judging by the reflections. I've never really considered Dodo Blue Velvet - i'm assuming it's designed to look best on blue / grey cars. I will put that one in the melting pot when considering the LSP for my grey 3 series. Have you used this wax before? How long does it last?

At last the weather seems to be settling so you might just keep it looking spot on for a few days longer :)

I bought the Dodo wax from someone on TS.net (can't remember who :ffs:), and have been pretty impressed with it. I think it says that this wax is designed for dark metallic cars, and the Atlas Grey of my car is sightly unusual in that it looks grey/black in some lights and dark blue or even purple at other times, so this wax works well.

The pot cost me around £30-£35 and i have probably used less than a third of the wax - i guess i may have used it 10 times or so, and it gives a long lasting finish, with the water beading for a month or two afterwards.

I think the experts on here would say that it is a good product, but you can achieve a similar finish with cheaper products.

Hi Sidicks,

Superb car and an excellent job, the colour really does stand out with the DODO.

Have you considered buying a foam lance to attach to your p/w when doing your first pass?. They are excellent at breaking down dirt before you touch the paintwork with a mitt, also in the winter if time and the weather are not on your side then you can just give the car a snow foam with the lance, pressure washer off with clean water and the car is back to a reasonably clean state.

I think that a number of cleaning related products will be on my Christmas list this year, including some snow foam.

My pressure washer does have a bottle that can be filled with cleaning solution and attached to the end of the lance to allow a pre-wash for when it is really dirty. Is that waht you mean?

In part yes but the Karcher one doesnt really compare to this one

E-Commerce. Go for the HD one (heavy duty) it has a larger bottle. These things are excellent, once you get one you will never look back !

p.s. make sure you get the correct fitting for your pw, ie Karcher fitting or Lavor fitting etc

I took the plunge a few months ago and bought the Autobrite HD lance and snow foam. I didn't really want to spend that much on a pressure washer attachment but I can confirm that is really is excellent.

I tend to mainly use it in the winter months when my car gets very dirty. A foam soak and rinse session removes 90-95% of the grime and helps avoid swirling the paint when I finally take the buckets and washmit to it.

I don't always use it in the summer as I wash my car at least weekly and I should imagine that foaming the car first and then shampooing probably takes it toll a little on the wax LSP, so choose to just rinse the car well with the hose spray before using a two bucket method.

Then there is the fun factor of using the foam lance too :D
