steveraine
I have a BMW 118d Sport, 2004 with 87k on the clock. The car has been running fine, until after a recent top up of oil. Since then there has been some white/grey smoke coming from the exhaust at random times! It isn't always when it has just been started, there can be none, and then a mile down the road there is enough to cover the road behind me when I pull away. I had a full oil change done, and the situation improved to almost no smoke. The oil light came back on last week so I got the mechanic to top up the oil. Since then it has gone back to how it was before. Any ideas or experience of this happening before? Steve
cruiser647
Are you putting in the correct oil - BMW recommended oil? Sounds like the wrong oil - which could be going through the valve stems or piston rings. Change the oil and filter again. However, it should not drop down to needing more oil between services??? Might be something else wrong - leaks somewhere????? Good luck!
steveraine
Thanks Cruiser. One of the lads at work has also just asked a mechanic friend, and he said exactly the same. I don't know what oil the mechanic put it, i presumed it was the BMW oil. I guess an oil change and filter better be done again then. Fingers crossed! Any other suggestions please reply Cheers Steve
steveraine
Well ........... a couple of weeks later, and diagnosed by BMW dealer as a faulty turbo. Follwing a email to BMW GB, and the dealership putting in a request for goodwill payment. BMW GB have agreed to pay for the new turbo at a cost of £1,000 and I just have to pay the labour. What a result! Just proves that asking the question is worth it Steve
