Anyone using it yet?

My SkyHD box gave up the ghost last night (not done bad, the original launch box I got... so has lasted longer than most)... so I need a replacement and I'm sure Sky won't do it for free without tying me into an other overpriced contract.

Are the Humax HD PVR boxes out again? I know they were withdrawn due to problems.

I have PlayTV for the PS3 on pre-order, but a little sceptical if this is going to be everyday user friendly or not... so I might go for the non PVR version HD box and leave the PlayTV to do any series-link stuff (only use it for Desperate Housewives, Top Gear & Confessions of a Call Girl anyway)

I got the Humax HD freesat box a while ago.

Nothing wrong with the box itself just the content on Freesat.

Plugged it into my one of my spare slots on the LNB on my sky dish. Easy peasey +++

When you first install the box, you have to insert your postcode so it can set up the relevant channels.

Only 1 HD channel (BBC HD) available in my area :smashfreak:

Just glad I never cancelled my Sky + HD subscription before buying this excuse for HD freesat.

It's ok for a spare room but not as your main viewing TV.

I think it will be a long while before this HD freesat stuff will be anywhere near Sky HD

The Freesat boxes don't transmit the picture down your existing RF aerial cables (like a SkyBox does out of RF2 for example), so I can't get the Freesat programs in the Kitchen, Playroom or Bedrooms, so it's back to sorting the SKYHD box out.

I'm on hold to Sky as I type........

Does it need the Sky style Co-ax cable from the dish to the box and then onwards?

Freesat uses the cables from your dish (CT100 Coax) to receive programs, however a SKYBOX also has normal aerial connections so you can distribut the picture to other rooms using your existing aerial cables (also Coax).

The Freesat boxes don't do this, or so I am lead to believe.

I've got an engineer coming out on Friday to replace the box with a "reconditioned" one, has cost me £65. The local Sky engineer is a mate, so it might be a VERY shiny reconditioned unit :coffee:

Contacted the $ky yesterday - chancing my arm really.

Had normal $ky on £22 package and am having $ky+ and Multiroom Lite fitted Oct 2nd - job done for £30. Box free and apparently Multiroom for free - we'll see - I'm guessing they'll try and charge me for it, I'll go to a fiver a month as thats the current 'Digital' offer for Wales based transmitter homes but I'll be pushing for free!

Apparently down to the fact that I'm a 'decent' customer of 4+ years - I guess I haven't chopped and changed what I've had and this is the first 'upgrade' I've done.
