Goz
Please help, I am trying to change the bottom half of the airbox for a new one, I thought it would be a straight forward job. There is something in the bottom half of the airbox, I thought it would be easy to remove, but at closer inspection it has a rubber hose going into it from the left (in picture) which looks like a coolant hose. If I undo the jubilee clip in the picture and detch the hose will it dump coolant all over the aribox? The other thing I'm not sure about is that the jubilee clip looks a bit funny, no screw. I'm embarresed to say I'm not even sure how to remove it. Is this type re-usable? Thanks Goz
mkoneman
that is a aux air pump that forces air into the exhaust to try and weaken the emission output, you can undo the pipe as its only air. HTH
mkoneman
oh and the clips are use once vag clamp but if you follow the hose to the engine end it was a normal jubilee clip at the other end on mine, if not cut off the vag clip and put a jubilee clip on there (you will need to remove the engine cover to get to it its at the back near the throttle body
Goz
Thanks Mkoneman! that's a relief. I was thinking to myself that would be a funny place to have a coolant pipe. I'll replace the vag clamp with a bog standard jubilee clip, should be ok since its just air. Cheers Goz
Goz
Sorry, another silly question, if I remove the aux air pump completely will I fail the next MOT due to emissions? I'm thinking if that's all its used for maybe the car is better off without it, assuming it can pass the emissions test? Thanks
Jash
Sorry, another silly question, if I remove the aux air pump completely will I fail the next MOT due to emissions? I'm thinking if that's all its used for maybe the car is better off without it, assuming it can pass the emissions test? Thanks If the the Aux Air pump supplys air to the exhurst is used to complet the combustion of any unburned fuel in the exhurst and increas the temp in the cat very quckly at start up, this is called LIGHT OFF. I dont think it will be a problem for a MOT as the car must be hot befor testing, therefore the cats will be up to temp and working efficintly. If the cats are a bit weak the ECU may demarmed them to come on as well as the ECU light may come on if the pump is disconneted. Best left conneted in my opinion dude. J. Goz
Thanks Jash, I'll make sure I put it back in when I change the airbox, I dont want to ruin the cats or give the ECU grief. Its a shame cars have cats, I was hoping to simplify things a little. Cheers, Goz
