Iam using a program called DiagRA.

Its what we use at work to log data and look at fault codes.

It a powerful bit of kit in the right hands, you can changed engine paramiters as will as all the other useul stuff.

We all so have a old'ish Snapon Scan tool that I mite try.

The only problem is (as well as not clearing the codes) trying to get it out of work to use it, this place is like Fortnocks.

I get a roasting if I get cort by security.

But from the screen shots Ive seen of VAG-Com it look as if thay are very similar.

Bear in mind fault codes accumulate and are not time specific. If not cleared, you could have been running rich years before the lean problem occured. In these cases you're always best to make a note of the codes and clear them, then start to only worry about any that re-occur...

You can see my problem now with not getting rid of the codes. Lame a!!

If I had more time to play with the laptop at work with DiagRA software I mite be able to find the problem with it.

Think I mite just have to buy VAG-COM and the right cabel so I can do it at home, but then I have all ways got it.

  • 4 weeks later...

Ive got round to doing some more work on the car this last week.

I now have a copy of Vag-Com and cleard the codes I had on the ECU.

Checked them a day later and the running lean on Bank 1 came back and the engine speed signal.

So why I was thinking about what could corse the problem, I stared changing the spark plugs.

As I got down to plug Number 4 I started checking some oily rubber pipes rounld the back of the engine and noticed that the brither pipes from the Cam covers to the T/B had split in 2.

Blocked the hole in to the T/B and all is well:grin:

Still done know why it has a problem with the engine speed signal, but as long as the engine is running ok I dont think it will be much of a problem. Well, till it brakes for good.

Dose any one know were the sensor is located on a 4.2 ABZ (i think).

Cheers.
