I saw a number I of S8s before I got mine that had the extremely impressive official detachable Audi tow bar installed. You may be able to get one used.

mkoneman has one I believe (on his older car I think).

Zip

2002 S8 FE

yeah i had a proper audi detachable one fitted to my old one, it was a very good system and invisible when not fitted,

but as some will know that ended in tears when i had a accident when i had a trailer on.

anyway i sold it off the car when i broke it, it sold for £155 on egay

I fitted an approved towbar to my facelift S8 about 2 years ago. Did the job myself - perfectly straightforward as long as you know how to remove the rear bumber. This was a detachable tow hitch model which was almost invisible when removed. The electrics were also perfectly straightforward using a small electrical black box which works the trailer lights/indicators by sensing the voltage in the rear loom without upsetting the A8's light failure system. As far as I can remember, I bought the towbar and electrics from this firm Towbars Direct | Witter, Tow-Trust, Westfalia, Brink, Bosal, GDW, PCT, SIARR, Eurobars, York & EECO Tow Bars in Warrington - not many do A8 towbars. I cannot remember what the bill came to but it was a fraction of what the Audi stealers wanted!

I have the Audi/Westfalia detachable towbar fitted to my '02 S8. Got mine from Ian at A8Parts, complete with the Audi wiring loom and relays etc. Very good if you can get hold of one - I tried for ages to get one, they're rare.

Fitted it myself, towbar was easy enough, just had to cut a hole for the wiring loom. Wiring was not easy really, a lot of fiddling around with the relay box connectors and routing the loom through to the front passenger footwell. It was fairly straight forward following the Audi instructions, but not a quick job really I found.

Once completed though, it's invisible when the ball is detached, I even modified the rear plastic undercarriage tray so that it splits in half when I need the towbar, but looks almost like original with the towball off.

Not really had a long tow with my caravan yet (wait for the scorn...) but had a little 15 mile run to move it last year, wouldn't have even known it was towing anything!!

Oooo the shame! :ffs: You must have the skin of a Rhinoceros. Do you wear a disguise when you drive. Does the wife and kids take the train and meet you under the cover of darkness. If you really haven't got any friends I can recommend a few in Albania. :roflmao:
