moynesey
Hi all Ok i maybe having a real stupid moment but where do all you guys and girls plug your iphone/media players av leads into? I have a 2001 S8 with what i believe to be RNS-C Navi Plus with TV tuner, have stripped the tuner etc out yet to have a look but thought one of you would know off the top of your head? Have heard of an adaptor lead but have not seen one, any clues would be good. Cheers

Cheers Should be in the boot at the back of the TV tuner on the LH side of the boot - I believe there are 2 sets of AV inputs on usual AV connections and most people just run the leads through to the base of their armrests and plug in when they need them. If anyone can add more great as ive got an archos 160 gig media player and want to run films off it onto the av/tv screen sometimes
IT_S8
Hi allOk i maybe having a real stupid moment but where do all you guys and girls plug your iphone/media players av leads into? There are however 2 different TV tuners, and 2001 was the cross over year. The older one, has got 1 set of RCA's on the rear of it, and thus you're problem is solved. As however you've stripped the tuner out, and not remarked on these, then it seems you have the later B type tuner. The good news is that with the B tuner you have 2 seperate AV inputs, not just 1, however you will need to wire the RCA inputs up youself as they form part of the single multiplug that connects into the back of the unit. There are adapting cables on Ebay for sub £20 that makes the job really easy. Once you have got the inputs presented in the boot, you can then run phono leads to whereever you need, but obviosuly the shorter the run, the better the signal quality. You'll probably want an interference surpressor on the audio connections though as they will pick up alternator whine easily otherwise... jmw748
IT-S8, I asked here last week if it was possible to install a car-specific digital Freeview box (the boxes guaranteed to 70mph are about 160 quid on Fleabay) and was told that there were no AV inputs to the Audi in-car TV: so thanks for the new info. I have an '02 S8 and unless I'm mistaken, I could feasibly connect a very high gain aerial to an in-car Freeview box and port the output to the boot via AV? As long as the box can reliably track the Freeview signal (and I have earthed the correct TV wire to allow TV on the move ), I should be able to "switch to digital"? I also think I could use my USB connected AV viewer to start films stored on my 160GB external drive: start the avi file running with my laptop and leave it to output via AV cable set 2 in the boot (after sorting power out for the HDD and distribution kit via a car mains inverter I have)? Am I clinically retarded or just optimistic? (Please answer that based on technical feasibility of the above question not what you hear from my wife, friends or anyone here )

Am I clinically retarded or just optimistic? (Please answer that based on technical feasibility of the above question not what you hear from my wife, friends or anyone here ) All technically feasible..... There are a number of car specific aftermarket aerials for the analog TV tuners, and unless I'm mistaken, the digital stuff picks up using the same aerial kit, so an amplified car aerial into a digi receiver hooked up over the AV inputs on the tuner would work in my eyes, likewise with the streaming of movies. Like all these car upgrade projects, the problem is not that of being able to pump the signal into the Nav plus, more an issue of control of the source - making it easy, and not giving it the 'diy bodged up look' that you're likely to get from a laptop bouncing around in the boot... Pulling over on the hard shoulder to select the next film is just not cool The original Audi tuners work by using the controls on the Nav plus unit itself over a canbus connection to allow the easy change of channels etc on the tuner in the back. A standalone controller has a seperate interface, remote control etc. It just all gets a bit fiddly in my eyes, especially when you're supposed to have eyes on the road... Tv on the move is achieved by simply disconnecting the GALA signal from the 8 block iso power connector on the back of the Nav plus unit. No rocket science, and no grounding of anything. So, feasible yes, but I'd look at one of the aftermarket options that is specifically designed to integrate with the Nav plus, and thus makes it more easily controllable. Google for 'IMA multimedia' for more info... I've never tried their stuff, but it looks just the ticket...
moynesey
Hi IT_S8 I have pulled the unit out and you are right (as usual) it appears to have E written on the markings. It does not have any actual RCA inputs, so must be included in the wiring harness. This adaptor cable you were talking about i can't seem to find any on Ebay etc and was wondering if you would be kind enough as to point me in the right direction. Thanks Ian
jmw748
I did the Google search as IT_S8 suggested and found everything I needed to know about connecting other media sources to my RNS-D. It is much neater to buy an interface and connect various media devices through it, so that you can control all of them from your RNS controls. This is a good place to start: KUFATEC GmbH - IMA Multimedia Adapter All integrate nicely with Audi systems. I've never used this company and have no affiliation - Just linking for the purposes of clarification.... gjlamb
Hi all, If anyone can shed light on what is what in my boot it would be appreciated. Obviously I know which box is the Nav box but not sure what the other 2 units underneath are. I assume one is the TV but don't know which. Also, where are the jacks/connectors for the external AV sources? The car is a 2003 D3 A8 4.2. Thanks

gjlamb
Finally got around to looking at this. There's a small red plug in the back box (just over 1cm square). Is that the one? If so, how do I do the input? I want to try plugging an iPod AV cable in if that's possible. Greg ps sorry if I appear to be asking the same thing over but all the posts about this really are not that clear for me.
