New wheels and tyres

What about this one then....

After finding a small chunk missing from the outer edges of my rear tyre, and down to the reinforcing steel I returned to my local dealer to engage in the inevitable negotiation into liability.

I only happened to notice the damage while shopping and when the wheel/tyre in a certain position.

I didnt notice until the car had travelled 500 miles which put me in a tricky position, anyway the dealer principal said it was damaged while I had driven it but they would replace the tyre and pay a contribution towards it, but no figures were quoted leaving me in the dark as to whether i would be facing £1 or £300+.

Anyway I left the dealers a very unhappy man and upon arriving home sent an email to Jeremy Hicks and copied in dealer principal, within 3 hours I had a call from dealer principal saying wires had been crossed and all I would have to pay was a token gesture!

Well I went to have tyre fitted yesterday and was told it would now be replaced free of charge but after an hour of waiting was advised that the wrong rotation tyre was ordered!

But the outcome is they tossed me the keys to a Q5, and 2 hours later delivered my car back with a complete new set of alloys/tyres swopped from the showroom Q7.

Have now got michelins (with a much nicer tread pattern) instead of the Pirellis.

Just looked at car, dont know why I said I had michelins they are actually Goodyears!

As for email address it is Jeremydothicksataudidotcodotuk and he is the managing director of Audi UK, probably wont actually be seen by him but will get you results.

Not such a good result at the moment, have now noticed vibrations through the whole car and steering wheel when driving especially at about 60mph! So got to go back in tomorrow to have wheels checked and balanced. Thought somebody might have test driven car first wouldnt you.

Hi Guys,

After 2 Q7s I finally gave in and waved it bye bye on Monday, having spent £1200 on Friday on it's first service and a set of tyres.

This time not only were the rear tyres worn unevenly across the width of the tyre, but they were also worn unevenly around the circumference.

It's a relief and after 5 new consectutive Audi's I can say with certainty that if Audi was the only manufaturer left I would by a pushbike! That's more to do with Audi and how I was treated than the car.

Most complaints from Customers about tyre wear on Q7's now result in a change to the Air Suspension settings. There was a change in suspension adaption around late 2008 which is supposed to help* reduce tyre wear

* Sadly cars like this are very pressure sensitive when it comes to tyres, especially in the case of Goodyears which 99.9% of Q7's seem to be fitted with. In most cases we find that increased tyre wear on Q7's are down to either incorrect pressures or people using the wheels as battering rams against kerbs.
