shark_90
You should definitely be getting more than that, 50+ easily. Does the car run OK? Does it feel sluggish?
Tipex
You should definitely be getting more than that, 50+ easily. Does the car run OK? Does it feel sluggish? In the real world (not manufacturers figures), thats good for any diesel, obviously it depends what sort of roads your driving on, but for mixed A/B roads and in town, 42mpg is pretty good for the VAG 1.9, if motorway miles, then it should be a bit better. Lots of people quote the figures the on board computer gives out too, which are usually optimistic, to get the real mpg (and be slightly disappointed) you need to measure tank to tank yourself. Again, it really depends what roads you are on, but you wont get 50+ mpg unless your cruising at a very steady 60mph on the motorway.
shark_90
Having owned three that's not my experience for the PD130 (which I think the 1.9TDi Sport is).. I know you've no doubt run a few of them too but in the A4 anything below 50 was a bad day and in the Bora I could get 60mpg+ on a run (computer figures although I recalibrated it with VCDS )
Tipex
I do run a few yes lol. We have 130 odd cars on the fleet at the mo, and I'd say somewhere in the region of two thirds of them have the VAG 1.9tdi in them, be they Skoda's, VW's or Audi's, of various power outputs, some even remapped. None of them get much more than 42mpg around town or on A/B roads, the odd few get 45mpg, on the motorway you'll get more but nothing like some peoples claims of 70mpg. I'd put money on it, that if you measure it properly yourself, you wont be getting what the computer tells you, even if calibrated (although I suspect yours will be more acurate than most:grin:), as the way the computer works it out simply isn't accurate enough. Mr Man
What always gets me, is`t what mpg we achieve but the official mpg test used by all the manufactures.I seem to remember reading that during the test the manufacturers are allowed to accelerate at a snails pace...literally....In fact the acceleration is so slow it could be described as almost dangerous on the public road...ie not keeping up with the flow of traffic..etc.....I think it`s some thing like 0-60 in up-to 25-30 seconds or something ridiculous like that.....At least they do the test on a test track now...a few years ago the official mpg figures were calculated by driving the car on a rolling road:eek:....obviously no wind resistance, inclines or pot-holed roads to blight their figures.....and on the subject of cons....have you read the small print for how the CO2 emissions and hence the Tax band the car falls into is calculated.....The figures are calculated with the car fully laden....max number of passengers+lugage+fuel...+ car has to have every available option fitted....Hence the test is done with the car at it`s maximum design weight.....So in the real world that four wheel drive car....be it an Audi or a fully laden Range Rover Vogue is producing a lot less CO2 than the official figures would suggest.....but then the green lobby never tell you that one cow produces the same weight of CO2/methane in a year as a Range Rover covering 12,000 miles....and that last statement is true because a friend of mine is involved with research to develope an animal feed that results in cows producing less methane....strange...but trust me...very true. cruiser647
My 1.9 VAG 115 PD unit gets 55+ mpg on my 120 mile commute down the A1, sitting at about 75 - 80 mph where I can, mixed with some crawling in traffic and some 50 zones where the cameras are. I have never driven about town for anything even approaching 1 gallon, so can't comment on town mpg. I calculate on fill-ups, but the DIS is saying the same. What sort of driving are you doing? Do you hang about? Do you crawl or keep up with traffic flow, lead the traffic? Rev the engine much? Me? Hardly ever go over 3000 rpm, change up at over 2.3K rpm so the engine is always just over 1.5K rpm for max urge! And with the 6 speed box, 80 is 2.3K rpm! Oh, It is usually just me in the car, so with Tipex's fleet, the car will be mostly used with more than 2 people + luggage.
mervyn
HI I would normally just drive with the flow of the traffic and wouldnt really be gunning it. Normally just the wife and child in the car
