hello just bought my self a 52 plate a3, completely standard. Just wanted to know a few things about getting it tuned..performance wise, not interested in extior and that.

I've heard a few things about getting it tuned but would like to know a bit more. I read superfasts thread on his audi a3 being 245bhp, what sort of upgrades are needed,, obv a remap, but before that im thinking of getting my turbo reworked maximise air flow and that ball bearings better fins intake pipe etc, is this all i needs to set me up for a remap or is there some other thinsg i should do first.

ps im new to this so bear with me :) as i may get muddled up with words and that.

Hi, welcome to Tyresmoke

Is it a quattro Sport (180bhp) or not (150bhp)?

Your first port of call is to make sure the car is running as it should be, then secondly look for a remap. Getting up to 245bhp is going to require a fair bit more than a remap. That's S3+ power and for that you're going to need a new turbo (K04 is the obvious route as per S3), probably exhaust manifold, definitely injectors and probably intercooler.

Where are you located?

hello mate, im based in portsmouth, hampshire. Yer i thought youd need it to be checked over first, getting it up to 245bhp isnt going to be a thing i do anytime soon due to insurance as im only 18 still. gotta wait till may next year for it to go down more. Oh right i thought with the new turbo thatd bring it up to the 300bhp area, is the s3 more poerful because of its turbo or soemthing, as there same engine size arnt they. Yer its the quattro 180bhp, 150bhp are only 2wd. i would want to get to the power zone of around 210 zone, various custom remaps ive looked at say they can get to this figure.

Yep 210 is attainable, maybe a little more but the turbo is at it's limit really.

The S3 has a stronger bottom end as well as a bigger (K04) turbo, bigger injectors, bigger intercooler and other bits and bobs. It is still a 1.8T but it's not the "same" engine.

Do you want me to come and see you next time I'm down south? Got another one to do while I'm in the area anyway :)
