The damn birds deiced to dive bomb my car this morining and gave the bonnet a good coating of their s*** (about 12 hits) i got out there as soon as i could this morning to give the car a good clean - the poo came off easy enough but it has left blemishes on the paint.

Ran into to halfruads to buy some scratch x - but its not getting the blemishes out :( is it possible to use scratch x with a megs g220 ? if so what pad should i use ? sonus red, white or yellow ?

Have been applying the scratch x with megs foam applicator so far.

Thanks

Hi Spikey,

Sorry to hear about the birds crap, no doubt on your colour this is a big problem as it would be clearly visible if the paintwork gets tarnished. Normally the white crap isnt so bad as the darker bird crap.

Unfortunatly, if you got hit with bad bird crap you might acutally need to wet sand the finish to remove the stain/mark/etching. I presume you have been left with either a white stain or faded paintwork style etch?

By hand Scratch X would be least aggressive with foam pad, you can step up the aggressiveness with a MF applicator, and then a dedicated hand polish pad such a CSS one or Sonus German Applicators.

Good news is Meguiar ScratchX can be applied by machine. Can you tell me if you have version 2.0 or the original?

The new version 2.0 is derivied from Meguiars new line of polishes M105 and M205 and they certantly considered to be some of the best polishes you can buy on the market. Meguiars has formulated ScratchX, Ultimate Compound and SwirlX with enhance dimishing abrasives. These products are DA (G220) and hand friendly!

If you have the original its an ok product, that will probably work. Apply it using the SFX2 pad (white). Put 4, 5 pence sizes blobs about and inch or so in from the outside of the pad in a circle. Spread it over the area by moving the pad with machine off, then set it to 2 to get a good coverage over a 10 inch square area then polish at speed 5.

The problem with the older ScratchX is that it can "gum up" or become sticky, just make sure the surface is cool and that you do not over work it! If you get it gummy, then you will have to wash the pad before you try another application. Use a QD to help remove the residue from the paintwork.

I hope it works!

Geoff

PS. I said over a 10 inch area, you can make it smaller if u want too. Not really small though or you might never break down the polish. If you reduce the amount of polish on the pad too much, the pad wont be lubricated and you run the risk of micro-marring (light haze on the paintwork).

Geoff,

Thanks for the reply.

Note sure if its v2.0 or original - the tubes just says Scratch X new and improved - can be used by hand or DA (saw the can be used by DA after i had posted on here - doh)

I hit the bonnet with some scratch x and the white pad - it has improved the marks, but they are still there :(

Looks like its eaten into the piant already. its a faded paint work etch.

It was late when i was workijg on it so wont really know what the paint looks like now until tomorrow.

I cant believe this has happend - all the years i owned cars they have never been hit with bird crap like this - and so soon after having nathan machine polish it for me.

For what its worth the bord crap wasnt your normal white stuff - this was huges great splodges of brown crap - to make it worse not one bit missed the car - there was no marks on the drive, just the bonnet - i swear birds do it on purpose.

I can only guess it got hit late last night - never realised bird crap could eat into paint so fast.

I tell you i could really cry at this moment

Hi Spikey,

It seems like that stain could be there for ever :( The birds have amazing aims for our cars? Yes the brown stuff is tougher stuff.

You might be lucky and find it does darken up with the applicaton of some products. IME over time applying products like SRP/Lime Prime etc will all reduce the appearence of the mark.

sadly its more than 1 stain - there are about 5 large splats and 6 small splats.

The work i did with the stratch x and g220 seems to have paid off a bit, you cant seem the marks now unless you are at a cerain angle - but i know they are there :(

So annoyed as i have been so carefull not to allow bird crap to sit on the car for this very reason - even carry a bottle of Megs NXT QD and MF cloth with me at all times just in case i get hot whilst out.
