Hi, i just bought an Black S3 with the stronic gearbox, the only concern i have is when i try to accelerate medium to full throtle from standing still the car feels like the gears took a time to engage, so the car take some seconds to launch, this happens only that way, in stop and go traffic it dont feels the same, or when tried accelerating smoothly, the cars dont fels the same, as i stated befor only when triying medium to full throthle launches releasing the brake rapidly an triying to accelerate.

Thanks in advance for your help :)

Just to clarify....is it just slow off the mark from a standing start in 1st gear.....or is it slow to pick up...say when in 3rd and you boot it.Does this only happen in manual mode....or auto...or both.....and finally do you think it feels a lot better when the engine and gearbox oil are up to temperature.I have personally done just over 45k trouble free miles in a DSG(s-tronic) equipped A3 2L petrol turbo.....I personally love the DSG box...but it does have it`s little quirks....countless posts have been made discussing the pros/cons of the DSG system.....but the one thing everyone agree`s on is that you do have to adapt your driving style to get the very best out of this system.

Just re-read you post....Standing start....sounds like the ESP is kicking in=front wheels start to spin/power to front wheels reduced=haldex clutch engages rear wheels=4wd=traction restored=and your off....this all takes a fraction of a second....but enough to make you feel the car has bogged down......No doubt an S3 owner will be along soon to give you their more informed opinion.

(ps)...have you tried launch control....it`s in the cars manual....Switch off ESP....Engage manual mode....left foot on brake.....right foot accelerator...increase revs to 3/4k...then release the foot break.....and your off....switch ESP back on.

Hi, yes i just slow off the mark from standing start in 1st gear and in D, then is just smooth changes. and only happned when you are like an intersection and want rapid cross but not a burnout, it feels like the clutch take a time to engage. but it is normal?

I`am in work at the moment....I`ll post a few tips tonight....as I said in my first post the DSG box has a few quirks...one of which is it can get a little confused as to what gear it should be in when approaching junctions.The hesitancy you describe at junctions is one of those quirks.Try to either stop completely at the junction...or as you approach the junction manually click down a gear or two......this ensures a smoother get away......Finally from my experience you have to have a very gentle right foot when easing the power on at junctions when in D mode....especially if you`v just rolled up-to the junction in D mode......If you do a dsg search on this forum you`ll find that many posters will mention the phrase..." re-learning/adapting" your driving style to get the very best from this system.....Just go out and drive the car and discover how to best use the DSG system.......and finally what you describe is normal....but don`t worry you`ll soon learn how to avoid this jumpiness at junctions.

Yes, maybe i just need to drive and re-learn to drive this one, since one month ago i used to have a Ibis white S3 2009 manual, but i have a hard accident with a total loss:(. (great crash security with this car, let me tell you:eek:). I say i need to re-learn to drive this car because it feels way to diferent from the manual. i only have 400 km whit this new one i will drive it this weekend to start learning again:grin:. Thank you

Sorry to hear about your accident.....DSG....as I`v said I love it....but even now after 45k miles I still occasionally get it wrong at junctions....but trust me you will master it and before long it will start to feel as natural as a manual.I will personally never buy another manual car....so that gives you some idea how much I love driving a dsg(s-tronic) equipped car.

....Fairly normal when in D-mode but try M-mode (manual) and select the gears exactly when you want to.

Experiment with the various options and you'll find plenty of combinations to suit both you and the road conditions.

There's a Mk5 GTI guy I know who regularly goes up the quarter-mile at Santa Pod and he's wheelchair-bound and uses either a walking stick or a loose spare false leg to help him out! DSG is what enables his driving pleasure. VWRacing have also built a DSG race car for a 'disabled' driver. DSG rocks!!

Hi, thanks for your response. i will try using manual and S mode and post my founds abaout this "issue". As i stated before maybe i just need to learn how this works to get the most of this gearbox. I know this is one wonderful piece of engineering. Well this weekend i try to use all modes and post my findings.

Thank you! +++

.

....Glad to be able to help, mate +++ You may find that it takes longer than just a weekend to become natural and fluid with it but you'll get to base camp.

The trick is to be brave and experiment and what suits you will gradually become clear. Even when you have done thousands of miles using DSG, you may still discover new combinations (difficult to describe except by long examples). The S-tronic/DSG box of tricks is pretty bomb proof and has all sorts of self-protective features, so just go for it!

It's neither a traditional automatic nor a traditional manual transmission - It's something quite special if you keep an open mind and work with it and not against it.
