Polo 1.2 Exhaust System Fault light

I have a VW Polo 1.2 05 Reg which intermittently shows a ESF light. It occurs in the nature of things when starting the engine but remains on. A top up of fuel appears to trigger it and strange as it may seem - stopping the engine and removing and replacing the dipstick takes the light away. I stumbled on this after thinking that the problem was linked to the oil level having recently changed the oil. It has been suggested that closing the bonnet could influence things - but this has been tried without effect! For most of the time all is well - there are no signs of anything being wrong with the engine - It's a niggle which could be more than a niggle when MOT time comes round! Any help would be gratefully appreciated. Biddulph

Fault 16726 camshaft position sensor continues to present itself!

This intermittent manifestation has only occured since a recent oil change. In the process of the oil change I allowed the oil level to flood the camshaft housing as I was re-filling the sump. I am wondering now whether the access oil has 'fouled' the sensor causing it to emit a low signal from time to time. Today I removed the sensor and cleaned it and for the present all is well!

It would be reassuring if someone was able to confirm my suspicion!

Thanks,

Biddulph
