Locked out!

Thanks, but it's still the same after trying that. Unfortunately the root cause is electronic and, though i hate to admit it, my own fault - I managed to enter the wrong code in VAG-Com when trying to change the locking settings. I only realised the error after I had relocked the car and nothing would work. Very stupid.

From researches on here and on Audiworld forums I get the impression that I'm going to have to find a good locksmith or maybe get the windscreen taken out, but if anyone knows of a better solution that would be much appreciated.

interesting...does it have a real keyhole in the front doors?

surely the key inserted into the lock should work just to let you in it would work if your battery was flat .

this is only a mechanical lock .

somebody must know more...come on guys .

Strange as the lock worked with the key on mine when the battery was flat and the central locking didn't work.

I wonder if someone has broken the lock at some point too.

The central locking pump is in the boot (I think on the left hand side). You could maybe see if you can force it to run.

There is a key hole only in the driver's door. It will turn 45 degrees in either direction but doesn't seem to have any mechanical connection to anything. Presumably it operates as a switch when things are working properly. I don't know whether it might have got broken in the past, but it's always been like that since I have had the car.

Trying to get a current to the central locking pump sounds a good idea, but does anyone know what I would need to connect to what in order to get the desired result? I am rather wary of trial and error in case I end up doing more damage e.g. burning out the pump or blowing a fuse that I can't get at.

Another thought - would it be as simple as detaching a rubber pipe from the centra locking pump and blowing some air down it, or are the valves that convey air pressure to the door locks in the doors themselves?

You would need to connect the Brown/Red wire going into the black plug on the vacuum pump to earth....

Of course yours is much newer and might be different, and even though you are only flashing to ground, please don't blame me if you fry anything!

I thought I would check again whether the central locking pump was actually working as I thought I had heard it when I opened the boot at the weekend. Sure enough, when I reconnected the battery, I found that the pump made its usual groan when I turned the key in the boot lid, but only once. If I tried to lock or unlock it a second time, nothing happened. So I tried the key in the driver's door again. Nothing seemed to happen until I disconnected and reconnected the battery again when to my huge relief, the doors unlocked! I'm not sure of the precise sequence of events, or why this happened, but the main thing is that it is that everything's now correctly coded up and running again!

Things would of course have been much easier if I could have unlocked the door mechanically with the key in the first place. Thinking back, I am wondering whether the mechanism may have been disturbed when I had the driver's window replaced a few years ago after someone tried to break in using a brick (without much effect apart from scratches on the glass).
