Double Glazing for a 2.8 D2?

I read recently of a 2.8 D2 for sale with double glazing. Now, that isn't a standard fit or, if I recall, even an option in the 2.8. So does anyone know if it's an easy mod and, if so, what do I need (is it just replacement door windows or are the motors different?) and (hello again A8 Parts!) how much the parts will cost?

Yes this is totally doable. I went to A8 parts and they did my twin pane double glazing conversion for me. It involves changing out the inner skin of the doors as you will need the larger seals, window motors etc. They did a fantastic job even though it was very fidly with the door card clips etc needing replacing as they break when removing the cards. Massive difference now though with hardly any road noise coming into the cabin and a great talking point

'Twin Pane' was always an option on the 2.8 models, but rarely fitted. We've only dismantled one 2,8 with factory twin pane. The front screen is always laminate, so effectively twin pane anyway. The difference is in the side glass and rear screen. Having said that, cars fitted with Navigation plus and TV have a single pane rear screen to allow the TV signal through. So, its quite plausible for a 2.8 with TV to have the correct twin pane spec by 'simply' retrofitting the upper doors from a twin pane car to a single pane one. You will need the entire upper door as the glass is thicker, requiring new runners etc.

As always, contact us directly for any costs (then I cant get blamed for selling it too cheap again +++) - 01642 710010 or [email protected]

Yes, hes not kidding..... The first 2.8 I Drove long distance I kept looking round for an open window or the sunroof ajar.... The noise difference is quite noticable if you're sensitive to peace and quiet..... +++

Being half-way through a glass replacement for one of my D2 windows, the bit Ian is talking about is the section that goes between the door skin and the internal card which holds the window motor and the window.

Not sure if you can just replace the top bit, but it's a wee bit of a fiddle to do. Allow for an hour or so per door. Easier if you can get the windows in the unit at the same time.

Well, thanks to the nice folk at A8 Parts, I now have a double-glazed 2.8! It's lovely and quiet. We had a couple of hic-cups because mine has blue tinted glass (most are brown, apparently) so Dave had to scour his stock for the right coloured glass and was very careful to make sure all windows were unscratched and clear (you can get moisture beween the panes, he says, that makes them slightly opaque).

But I'm very pleased with the result (having tested it perhaps just a little over the speed limit and didn't even have to turn the radio up!) and, yet again, I'm astonished at how helpful, courteous and professional the guys at A8 Parts are.

THANKS DAVE AND TEAM!
