Morning all,

Long time reader first time poster (how lame)

I've got an A4 Sport 130 TDi which has developed a problem starting (past few weeks) takes 2 / 3 attempts to start and when it does turn over, it puts on a floor show by billowing white smoke out the back.

However, when it's warm, no problems. Power seems a little lacking although iit could be just my perception as I'm driving cautiously.

I've bitten the bullet and it's sat in Audi as we speak for a cold start diagnostic. (£117) After a lot of googling it would appear it could be injectors or something. Anyone else had this?

Cars been in since last night, It's now 10:40am... I'm not convinced this is going to be good news!

It could well be the temperature sensor. There's two circuits, one that tells the ECU what the temperature is and one that tells the dashboard, so even if your dashboard it reading correctly, the ECU could be seeing something completely different.

If the ECU is seeing an incorrect reading it perhas won't know that the engine is cold and therefore start up in the correct mode. Although to be honest is does usually happen the other way around and display itself as a hot start problem.

Well they're charging me £200 to do it (including the £117 'diagnosis' charge) so with new wiper blades, MOT (pass first time) and a full service I now owe them £496... ooch
