My new A6

Well, had the 2.7T for 2 weeks now and it's been eventful........

I got the gearbox fluid and coollant changed and asked my Audi man to investigate the hot oil smell. He said it would need stuff doing......£££££.

So I rang the garage that done the previous service and they said it needed the usual Audi gaskets doing.

I rang the garage where I bought it from and explained, as they said the oil leaks had been repaired. I took it back with an ETKA print out. The owner was miffed to start with, but soon calmed down as I did not raise my voice. He called his mechanic who done the work and he said he had changed the cam cover gaskets and the VVT cam seals (Audi weakpoint, as the previous 2 A6 V6's suffered from the same issue)

Anyway, we ran the car and eventually, the hot oil came wafting up from the engine bay. He was satisfied and quite jovial at the end of the conversation. I never called him a liar or implied anything abou thim - just about what the mechanic had done.

Anyway, I lef tthe car with him and took a 1.6 16v X-reg Astra. As a loan for the week. That was a fine car actually, better than the 07 Focus I had on a different occassion!

The week went by and so we returned to Norwich, wondered about a bit by Anglia Square and some shops along Magdelen Street. Had lunch at The King Of Hearts and then off to the garage. Collected the car, no oil smell, happy garage owner

Drive home (again) was really smooth, the car just glides along and Audi must have improved the suspension from 1998, as this car sits higher, rolls less and rides better than the 98 version. Performance wise - it surges along and revs very easily. However on the route back, I managed 35mpg ave (said the DIS), but that really was cruising, but at high speed. It doesn't take much to keep it rolling, and when you need to move along, you get a nice surge. Not an explosion or kick, but a really good surge of torque. You notice the difference from the 2.8! Where the 2.8 would kick down, the 2.7 T doesn't. Where the 2.8 would be working hard, the 2.7T isn't. Listen hard and you can hear the twin turbos faintly whistling away, delivering that extra air!

Future mods? The thing is too long in the tooth to boost the power. The most I'll do is maybe change the air filter to a Pipercross panel replacement job (no oil)

Faults - apart from hot oil smells, there are the following:-

Front passenger tweeter 'kicks' when freshly turned on. Soon calms down and is not heard again until next 'turn on'

CD changer shows Err on every CD, but will play if messed about with alot! Will try a cleaning CD on it.

Usual digital display crack up

Errrr - that's it.

So far - so good!

Will have to try to get some pics up before wifey bashes it in.
