Tufty
Hi Can anybody help. I have an A6 2006 and the MMI keeps cutting out out every 20 - 30 seconds. I have taken it to an Audi dealer who have diagnosied it to be the Telephone interface module to be faulty. I have looked on Ebay and you can buy then easy enough. Question is: Where is this module located in the car, secondly are they easy enough to replace. Many thanks Tufty
PsYcHe
They're in a box under the passenger seat. If you're half-handy with a tool kit then it should be easy enough.
Cockney Boy
You will need to remove the seat (CVT M10 Spline Bit) and the side trim. Pull up the carpet to reveal a big black plastic box, there will be 3 clips holding the lid on. Inside is the BT unit (Silver). Regarding the purchase of a replacment, i would contact Craig at index who can supply you the latest version. He is very reliable and trustworthy and can even replace the unit for you. If you dont fancy going up to manchester, there are some members on Audi Forum who maybe closer. HiCan anybody help. I have an A6 2006 and the MMI keeps cutting out out every 20 - 30 seconds. Tufty
Great many thanks for the feedback Couple more questions if I may. 1. when you say remove the seat (CVT M10 Spline Bit - ?) is this done by removing the 4 bolts holding the running rails on the floor, disconnecting the wiring and lifting the seat out ? 2. Do I need to disconnect the battery before disconnecting the seat wiring and telephone unit - if I do are their any security codes to be aware of/note when reconnecting? 3. Am I right in assuming that if I remove the telephone unit (disconnect it) the rest of the system will work properly (no more 30 second drop out) - i.e. if I do this it will prove the telephone unit is at fault ? In meantime thanks once again. Tufty
Cockney Boy
Q1 Yes (CVT M10) is the bit needed to remove the seat) Q2 No you dont, and no security to worry about Q3 If you remove the BT unit, the reat of the MMi wont work as its on a MOST Fibre optic loop. If you wanted to do that then you would need a MOST Loop connector. Once the MOST Loop connector has been fitted to the two fibre ends it will then prove the BT unit to be good or faulty as the rest of the MMi system will work. stig414
You dont need to disconnect the wiring from the seat, or remove it from the car. Just unbolt it, and lay it back on the rear seat out of the way to provide enough room for lifting the carpet. Never disconnect any YELLOW connectors (airbag wiring) without disconnecting the battery, any others will be ok though. Will the new module not need coding to the car when fitted? Tufty
Cockney Boy Many thanks you've been a great help. As per Stig414's comment - is the unit code protected, or is it plug and play ?. If it is code protected do you need a VAG-Comp to set it up?. Cheers Tufty
Cockney Boy
Not true, The Airbag is only live once the car goes above a certain speed, removing the yellow connector with the battery connected will not harm the airbag system or deploy it. You may need VCDS to remove the fault codes, and to make sure thatt he replacment BT unit is happy, but you shouldn't need to re-code the unit. PsYcHe
I don't think the BT units use CP, mine certainly didn't when I fitted it.
