COuld be a loose connection, or just some crap in it fromt he roads of late. But.. D3 motorised handbrakes do have a habit of breaking, had one replaced in mine.

Thanks for the reply on this - yes i am hoping its the road grit thats got to it and am waiting to remove the wheel and get it cleaned up and check the connectors, however i have lately been noticing at random intervals when i have parked up (and not used the parking brake) the motor making noises as if its trying to engage. maybe that was the tell tail sign that something was going to happen soon....

out of curiousity did you get yours replaced under warranty or did you have to reach deep into your pockets? Any idea on costs for a replacement motor/mechanism?

I cannot help you with the problem, but, the noise you have heard after parking but not applying the parking brake is quite normal. My A8 D3 does this and has done since I bought it over 3 years ago. I guess that the motors are adjusting the pad gap to compensate for wear (which is normally done when you apply the parking brake).

Thanks guys for your input - much appreciated...

I have been quiet on this the past couple days as i wanted to investigate further...the damndest thing - i had the car steam cleaned after the salt n grit on the roads over new years, after an hour of the car being washed (it wasnt that bad mind) the messages have now disappeared of the Dashboard....

I am wondering if this is a temporary repreave however i will keep monitoring this and see where it leads - it seems more electrical than mechanical failure so lets see what happens over the week.

once again, many thanks indeed for your inputs.

Regards
