macdaddy2x
Hi guys The heater matrix in my MK5 Golf GTTDI has gone (masses of condensation in the cabin and damp carpets in the footwells) Does anyone know how much of a nightmare it is to change? Does the whole dash have to come out? How long (roughly) should it take? Anything I need to know before attempting it? It's a 2.0 litre diesel with dual climate control if that makes any difference. Thanks in advance.

cruiser647
Hi! You sure it's the heater matrix? Have you checked your coolant levels? Do you have a sunroof? The drainage holes sometimes block and the water then exits into the car - or the climate drainage holes get clogged keeping the water in the car again. Hope it's not the matrix! macdaddy2x
Hi mate Thanks for the reply. If I fill the bottle up to just above the min mark it's gone after a couple of miles, but stood still idling the level doesn't drop. The car doesn't have a sunroof. Stacks of condensation in the car again today (almost dripping off the windscreen) and footwells are damp as ever. I'm guessing it is the whole dash out then? Thanks again for the reply. dazseaton
thanks for those exploded schematics, just what i was after (as haynes manual is woefully inadequate). Climatic heater on a mk5 golf. Is mine broken or are they all crap?? Sometimes When its cold and you turn the heater on to demist the screen it mists up really badly and takes ages to clear. Also the heat output is feeble especially in the front footwells (glad its got heated seats). had the glovebox out to check for leaks around the matrix but without dismantling the whole car couldnt find anything. The heat control stops moving the solenoid at about the three o'clock position so may have a look at that tomorrow although had a play with a guys at work and his was the same. he wasnt impressed with the heater either but his is an early tdi (without the electric heater i presume).
