[Audi A3/S3] Sick S3 2001 - possible fuel pump problem

Afternoon, first post and looking for some help.

Car died yesterday, turned the car over and there was no action. Electrics seem fine just wouldn't start.

Called the AA and he managed to start it. Wasn't quite sure what he told me the problem was. He basically lifted up the read seat, pulled back the cover cloth to reveal a circular panel connected with 3 screws which he removed. This exposed some part which he banged a couple of times which eventually started the car. Is this the low pressure fuel pump? If so I think he said I needed to replace the part.

Please can anyone tell me if this is correct, also where I can get this part from?

Your help would be much appreciated.

Bobby

I had the same issue with my 2001 S3 on sunday. RAC came out and couldn't get it started. Have you any idea how much it will cost?

Out of interest, what mileage is on yours and where are you?

I am also looking for a cheap replacement. Any one know of anywhere?

I'm in Leamington Spa, got a price.... ranged from £100 - 150, there are a few variants, my friend has taken the unit to the suppliers to match it exactly. I've got 110,000 on the clock, never had too many problems. Just the standard stupid sensors and little things Audi design to break so they can charge you £120 an hour + VAT!
