eallin
Hi all, My Megs clay bar is passed its best and I've run out of Megs Hot Rims cleaner. I'm a big fan of Megs products, especially when Halfords have the 3 for 2 on , but wonder if there are alternative products I'm missing out on. In particular, the wheel products - my current method is a spray of Hot Rims, rinse, brush, clay any stubborn marks, then coat with Megs metal polish. Cheers, Ed. steelwind101
Hi! Are your wheels uncoated? If they are you might want to consider a PH neutral wheel cleaner such as P21s/R222 or Serious Performance has a pretty good safe wheel cleaning gel for about £6! After using the metal polish you might as well seal the wheels. There are a few dedicated wheel sealants about, they are not so durable on clearcoated alloy wheels but do pretty well bare metal. Autobalm do a clay for about £10 and it only requires water as a lube, its effective, large bar and good value for money. Tough to beat, just make sure you use plenty of water, i use the hose. eallin
Thanks. Autobalm clay bar ordered - from what I've now read, it comes out top of the polls for clay bars. As for the wheels, they're standard Audi alloys - I assume they're clearcoat, but not sure.
steelwind101
Hi, Excellent choice! Your probably best off not putting metal polish to often on clearcoated alloy wheels. It is just paint on metal, sometimes people use metal polish on clear coated wheels at car shows to give it a bit of shine and a clean just like chrome polish is used on glass. Probably best off using a paintwork sealant on them, it makes it hard for brake dust to stick and really get stuck on alloys too! Geoff
Performance Motorcare
Agree with Geoff - the P21S is an excellent choice for any wheels but especially so for uncoated/chromes. Rob
eallin
Thanks both, Now the wheels are now relatively clean, I've gone for Bilberry wheel cleaner to maintain them. It's just that bit cheaper and seems to get good reviews on other detailing forums. Also ordered AG EGP for sealant as recommended on one of Geoff's previous posts. I assume this acts like a dedicated wheel sealant such as poorboy's, etc. Ed.
steelwind101
Hi Ed Bilberry is ok, you get alot of it for your money so it should last a while! It isnt the same as P21sR222 though. EGP should work better on clearcoated alloy wheels then dedicated wheel sealants! Geoff
