IT_S8
Forgive me for asking what has probably been answered somewhere, but I really cant find a comprehensive answer and I have looked... I want a reverse cam on the RNS-E, but I'm not really sure how it works... 1) Does the RNS-E Tv Tuner have a couple of AV inputs available via an adapter cable like the old RNS-D tuners do ? 2) If so, can one be used for a reverse cam, and how do you tell the RNS-E which input to select for the reverse cam ? 3) If either of the above aren't possible, I guess a cheap an cheerful adapter like this would work ? : AV Multimedia Interface Adapter for AUDI RNS-E on eBay (end time 28-Feb-10 12:36:54 GMT) 4) If 1&2 are feasible, is the 4D0 919 146 C suitable and is that analog / digi or both? or is there a better tuner to aim for.... Thanks in advance....

IT_S8
Thanks for that, I digested that thread earlier today to no avail... Amusingly, on page 19 there is a guy desperately asking the same questions I now have but he never seemed to get a reply... I do now understand that the tuner for the RNS-E does support the 2 additional inputs, but there seems to be no concrete 'yes it works' from anyone on the subject of the RNS-E switching the input to AV1 or AV2 (which one is required is also unclear) when reverse is selected.... I cant believe I'm a pioneer on this topic, so just figured somebody must have it working... I'm guessing that it *is* possible to factory order an A3/A4 with an RNS-E, Tv Tuner and Reverse camera (although I dont know?) and if so, then the ability presumably exists... It is suggested that the ablity exists in the Lambo, but that would be a rather expensive upgrade right now I'm avoiding the IMA adapters as all the blurb suggests that they use the DIS for a lot of their cool stuff, but as this is going in an A8 D2, there will be no graphical DIS function.... Thanks for the reply though
craigyb
Unfortunately it is not possible to have OEM TV and reverse camera together on the RNS-E. You can use one of the AV inputs of the TV, but it is not possible to tell the RNS-E to switch to it automagically when reverse is selected. The best 3rd party solution is the Kufatec IMA with reverse camera option. It will give you one AV input and a reverse camera option as well. And the RNS-E can auto switch. Thanks for the answer Craig,... but thats not good news, anyone wanna buy an RNS-E tuner ? Ok, Plan B - work around - On the RNS-D if you change the Tv tuner to one of the A/V inputs, it remembers that and comes back to it next time you select TV. Does the RNS-E work the same way, ie can I leave it selected to the A/V input with the camera and then manually switch to tv / the other input if I really feel the need, or will the RNS-E just totally ignore the reverse camera option and/or bring up the TV ? I have no real intention of using the second A/V input or TV at present.... Plan C - Does anyone have any hands on with the IMA - Does a lack of DIS impare its function much? Plan D - I'll just fit some bigger door mirrors?
craigyb
The RNS-E does the same as the D for video source.
