Quick Detailer recommendation

Just mixed up the last of my Meguiars Last Touch QD so need to replace soon. I use it occasionally as a clay lube but regularly as a drying aid and sometimes to clear very light dust from the car. Pretty happy with Last Touch but just wondered is there anything else I should be considering.

I use Last Touch as a clay lube but for a finishing QD after washing, I think there are noticeably much better QD's, although more expensive too.

My two favourites are Clearkote Quikshine and Finishcare FK425. Definitely worth trying in my opinion.

Both seem to display antistatic properties - a must for a dark car in the spring with all the pollen dust!

Thanks for the recommendations guys, last touch is good as it dilutes and I assume any of these others don't. Having said that price is not the deal breaker, repelling dust would be good as my car seems to be dusty immediately after i dry it as i can see when i open the garage door and the sunlight hits it.

Whats the cost of these other QDs and where best to buy?

Here are some links below. The Quikshine if purchased in bulk comes in a US gallon container with just a drop in the bottom for you you add water.

Detailed Obsession

FinishKare #425 - Ultra Slick Polywipe

As Geoff says, the Pinnacle Crystal Mist is a great protection detailer. I'm using that at the moment and use it every other wash in place of my usual QD's. It's quite durable and really brings back that warm just waxed look (and beading).

Dont add water to FK425 a far as i know its not meant to be diluted. having played about with products and water before you often end up in smear city! I have used it on a wet'ish car after the flood methord of drying and it worked fine.

You might see better value and not much difference by buying a product such as Serious Performance's own brand QD. Its a great product and its very affordable, they do a descent enough wheel gel wheel cleaner and a spray wax amongst other things under there own label.

Also OID, Optimum Instant Detailer comes in a 32OZ bottle, you mix it with water and you can get up to 128oz (1 US Gallon) of product. It looks nice though i had a few issues with streaking.

If i had the choice of 425 or QS i would take the Quickshine. I would choose QS b/c i believe it revived or enhances the looks of what is already on the paintwork. Rather then bringing in its own particular look.

FK425 is very much a weak spray sealant, what makes it a QD is the fact it has mild cleaning abilities. As such i think FK425 tends to tweak/add/change the looks rather, less pure prehapes.

Hi Davy

From reading your post you mention about 'mixing up' the last touch.

As a QD you should use it straight from the bottle undiluted and to use it as a clay lube you dilute it 50/50.

I'd hate to think it could mark your paint if used diluted and for QD purposes.;)

Cheers pal

Is that right? I thought last touch could be used diluted as a drying aid.

No bud. It is only diluted 50/50 as a clay lube lubricant. Use it neat as a QD. ;)

I got some Optimum OID last week which is sent in concentrate form, it dilutes to 3.78 L but only as a QD ;)

I was a bit apprehensive posting up about it as if I was telling you what to do you see what I mean. I'm glad I have now as I've hopefully helped you in some way ;)

Yes thanks for that, altho I would have thought it would be the other way round, would you not want the more concentrated mix as protection when claying and the watered down version to spray onto an already clean car when just using as a drying aid or QD.

Fair point Davy. I'm just going by the instructions on the back of the container. What Steelwind says is correct.

Re QD's, Pinnacles Crystal Mist is superb ;-)

Time to go back to the QD choice as I have "nearly" decided on Raceglaze 55 wax.

Are there any QD that should not be used on top of this wax and which QD will complement the wax best. If it makes a difference to the recommendations i currently tend to spray the car with QD when wet and then dry off.

Something that helps repel dust would be nice as my garage seems quite dusty.

My vote would still be to go for the Clearkote Quikshine.

Yes, it's pricey but well worth it imo.

I keep trying others but so far nothing has quite beaten it! Tou can also use it as a drying QD as I did this weekend and it still left a great finish

As Geoff said, FK425 is very good but I agree that it leaves behind a kind of shine / finish / look of it's own (albeit very nice) where as the Clearkote Quikshine seems to allow the finish / optics of the wax underneath to show through, yet keeps that day 1 just waxed look there.
