Exhaust options for 3.0 TDi D3?

Hello chaps,

I have seen that the latest (09) models have the same straight exhaust tips as some earlier 4.2 TDi models I have seen.

Are there worthwhile aftermarket exhaust mods for a diesel and anyone know the prices for a rear silencer of the new style? I like the straight design rather than the pointing at the floor look...??

BR

Nope it wasn't me...

But I'm pretty sure that Roberto has a full Miltek system on his white D3 3.0TDI...

Edit: Make that a Powerflow exhaust (i just read his signature)

YEP it was me..after several months of empty promises and cancelled appointments with MILTEK i gave up..i even took my car to there workshops in ilkeston for measurements, photos, etc for development (messed me about big time)

so i went to powerflow

they removed the system cat back i think

and made a new Y section with NO yes NO silencers

doesnt need them they said if you want it less quiet

so i let them do it

it sounds like a quiet RS4

unbelievable

£260 inc vat (stainless steel lifetime warranty)

MILTEK £1000 !!!!

the only thing i regret is i should have had smaller tail pipes

but its grown on me

Where are Powerflow based Roberto? £260 is a superb price and it really looks the part. I might consider one of these.

You say its like a quiet RS4. What about cruising on the motorway? Is it quiet then, as i couldn't live with a loud exhaust during long journeys?

I have a 2006 4.2 TDI which also had the less pleasant down-turned exhaust tips as standard. I much preferred the straight tips on the petrol versions, and the latest diesels (except the 3.0 DTI SWB). The reason for this apparently is that the now all have DPFs except the 3.0 TDI SWB as standard. However the 4.2 TDIs always has DPFs as standard but at the time they were the only ones, so Audi fitted the same tips as on all other diesels.

Anyway, I sorted mine out by buying some secondhand 4.2 petrol trims from a 2004 A8 on ebay in Germany, as the early ones had their tips bolted on rather than spot welded. I just simply used a Dremel on my original tips to cut the spot welds, then used a chain exhaust cutter to trim the end of the pipe square. I cleaned the petrol tips with caustic soda (also good for brake dust) to clear the petrol soot. Once clean I just slid them on with a bit of grease and tightened the bolts. I should have trimmed the pipe ends about 8mm shorter to get the exact length of a petrol version, but it still looks great anyway, and I still have the full factory exhaust.

If you make this mod on a car without DPFs fitted, be prepared to clean soot of your bumper on a regular basis though!

Thanks!! Hmm I did wonder about the filter and any updates. I assumed there were NO additional changes after the facelift in 2008. Anyone know if there were SOME additional tweaks??

Roberto - What about your nice new exhaust.. Does your 3.0 have a particulate filter?

I would love an S8 style quad, but this is overkill... So yours apparently even sounds nice as well Roberto.

Cheers

hi,

to fit the S8 quad you will need a new S8 rear bumper or a JIGSAW !

yes my D3 had DPF

it does soot up slightly if your booting it all the time but my car is white

powerflow were prepared to fit striaght pipes only think it was going to be around £90

but i wanted the better sound
