jimbutler
So if you live in an area where they have completely switched off analogue TV, and have an old TV in your house you can plug a freeview box in to it and still use the telly rather than go and buy a new digital one. Surely you can do the same if you happen to have a car with an analogue TV tuner system in it?? Anyone got a freeview box running in their car?? I know you can retrofit the Audi hybrid tuner, I recall craigyb quoting me a price to fit one. But there must be a cheaper way. I have noticed that my car claims to have two AV inputs, so I'll investigate connecting something up to one of those if there's not a straightforward way to connect to the TV tuner that's already there. PsYcHe
Yes is the answer. You will probably need the AV input cables from kufatec.de (easy to fit, did one on mine recently) and something like one of the units from eBay, though I'm not sure just how good they are but they're not too expensive. craigyb
There is a freeview addon from Audi that they brought out in 2005 before the HYbrid TV tuner. I would guess that these are cheap enough now to buy. I remember them being around £700 about 4 years back. But no one would want one now with the Hybrid TV tuners being available. I actually threw two of them out recently. They attach to the Aux in of the analogue TV tuner, but also link into the 4 antennas of the TV tuner. Control is done by a radio remote. You may want to search ebay or ebay.de for this following part.... 4F0 919 142 Here's one that is missing the cables/remote and it seems the green/brown connections for the Antenna in sockets. Tipex
Do they work though? Baring in mind all the early freeview boxes became door stops not so long ago when the changed the broadcast specs.
craigyb
Not all freeview boxes became doorsteps, all of the ones I've had for many years still work fine and picked up all the stations after a retune. Here's one for a euro with all the cables/remote etc, must be worth a punt..... jimbutler
Not made any progress on this (or collected my CD changer from craig). Anyone know of another solution?? Jim Edited June 29, 2010 by jimbutler
NewNiceMrMe
How reliable are the signals from in car digital TV receivers? I can't be the only one who has struggled with Freeview on anything other than a fully installed roof aerial. I say that because we recently installed a new TV in our offices and then had to get a new aerial socket fitted because we couldn't get any Freeview digital channels off any non-roof aerial. Surely, with the movement of a car and the requirements of a digital signal, the reception would be patchy? In many ways I know I must be wrong because otherwise manufacturers wouldn't supply them, but I'd like to know what experiences people have of the signal and picture quality.
