scooby_simon
many people have views on this one....Some nice 'quotes' are : A boat becomes a ship when : It's too expensive for most to afford ! When you need permission from QHM to enter P'mouth When B*stard Wightlink ferries give way to you When you need a mortgage to refuel her When you need a tug to berth in a hoolie When you need a pilot at the Nab When you have a duplex radio When you don't need to worry about a radar reflector When you give 3 blasts on the horn as you hit astern - as opposed to swearing 3 times when you hit your stern When you have a pic of your bowthruster on your hull When running aground means your insurance co. gets embarrased A ship has been defined as one that carries its own boats. Thus all submarines, which do not carry boats, are referred to by their crews as boats. And that includes the big ones that carry missiles. It's a bit like an elephant. Hard to describe, but you'll recognise it when you see one. But can boats pull ships ? Well yes..Tugs are boats and the pull and or push ships and likeboats are well boats.... scooby_simon
And...you know you 'own a ship....' When you have 'crew' to sail it for you, instead of with you When you need to check it will fit into Harbours When people come on board, they come as guests, not crew When you don't have to worry about how much your cars cost any more ! Ari
Ahhh... but that sounds like a superyacht to me Kind of thing you see tied up in Monte Carlo. Not a ship, but certainly more than a boat! Something like this...
