Z3 Odometer Problem

There is probably an easy answer to this question, but I do not know it..

I own a 1998 2.8 litre Z3 convertable..

The car runs extremely well but I have just noticed that the odometer and trip distant meter are now unlit ...Therefore I cannot see mileage, be it accumulative or per trip.

What should I be checking before thinking about a repair bill that may cost me £500 upwards from the dear lambs at BMW..

Is there a fuse dedicated to this section?

Can I reset the settings ?
