Intermittent sunroof/windows - D2 A8 V8

hi - any help here would be greatly appreciated...

D2 A8, the sunroof and the windows all round won't often open/close until after I've been driving for about 5 minutes. And even then, it's pot luck. And then when you stop, they quite often won't close which is getting a bit annoying to say the least.

I've also noticed, when they are operational, if you hold then button to close it for little bit afterwards there is a clicking sound coming from the relay area.

So I'm wondering, is there a relay common to both sunroof/windows that could be faulty, badly connected? Or is there something else common to both? I know it's not fuses as the windows/sunroof are on seperate fuses, but there has to be something in there common to both. If the windows work, the sunroof works, and if the sunroof doesn't the windows don't either.

anyone got any ideas on this as I had to put some plastc sheeting over the roof last night to keep the birds and associated cr*p out! thankfully it's pleasant weather at the moment so I'm sticking with the air con.

Also, is there any way of telling which sensor has gone on the ABS? 1/4 is reporting a problem, but it won't tell me which one using vag.com scanner, just that the ABS has a faulty sensor. the mechanic who looked sais there is one on every wheel and it's a pain in the backside to diagnose which ones, which equals expensive!

firstly, welcome to the forum, you'll find a vast amount of info on here, and someone will be able to help you.

It sounds like there's a relay gone, and vag.com should be able to identify which one for you to take the guesswork out of it. If you're still having problems, then I'd recommend taking it to Ben at AV Performance who'll be able to diagnose the problem quickly.

If you're a member of the A8 Owners Club you'll also get a 15% discount on parts & labour :)

You think you'll be able to make it to the annual meet? I know it's a bit of a trek, but I promise it'll be worth it :)+++

Hi - thanks for the welcome.

I'm pretty certain it's a relay too, so maybe I'll play around some more with vag.com to see what it comes up with.

AV Perf or a bit far away from me, i'm down in Bramley, between Reading-Basingstoke.

As for the annual meet, definitely not this year, falls right in the middle of our break in France...
