Stefen
A friend and I are building a buggy and chose the UrS4 engine as a powerplant. It's from a S4 and is the AAN version. The engine came with a loom and ECU. After pouring over the manuals and wiring diagrams, we are at the stage now that the engine starts, but stops immedately. The only time I have seen this before is when an immobiliser was kicking in. Could anyone confirm or correct this theory? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cupramax
Have you got an instrument panel with the ECU? Not sure if its the same on something that old but have you got a key symbol lighting up on it? Does sound like the immobiliser cutting in. Stefen
I haven't, but I have recently aquired an old Audi 80 16v, some of the connections may be the same. I guess the next step may be to read the fault codes. The thing is, there is no mention of an immobiliser in the wiring diagrams or anywhere I can see in the manual, perhaps is only on the later cars? mb
I would expect the immo to not allow the car to start so wonder if this is your problem - if you have re-wired I am sure you would have come across an aftermarket immo. What does the key say as the letters on the key give away which immo it has (if any). Can't help much more as my only dealings with an immo (beyonnd turning the key in my car/bike) was an aftermarket one & pairing some keys in a VW. Look here though - Ross-Tech: VAG-COM: Immobilizer Info
shark_90
That is definitely the immobiliser. What is your ECU number?
Stefen
I don't have the key or indeed any of the wiring or components other than the engine and its loom! Here are the numbers from the ECU: Bosch 0261204378 4A0907551E 21/08/96 26SA0000 12199034 I have asked on a more specific Audi forum and they indicated that this ECU was immobilized. There happens to be a local guy on the forum who can swap the chip over and also perhaps do a few upgrades aswell, so we are investigating that route at the minute! Thanks everyone for their help. shark_90
I was going to suggest you speak to Paul N, he's the man with these ECUs.
