yodauk
Ive got a 2004 A8 D3 and some stupid idiot (me) forgot to lock it last night. And guess what, someone even more idiotic than me went round our estate trying all the doors. Didnt get away with anything but did damage the centre cup holder cover. My question is....Is there a way for the doors to automatically lock after a set period of time. I know this shouldn't be a replacement to me actually locking the car...but it would be nice if i 'forget'. Thanks for any help. Did try searching the forum for automatic/lock/d3/a8 but nothing so apologies if this has already been answered somewhere. Thanks
Wizbit
I'm pretty sure you can't set the car up to do this (at least not in any of the standard car menus). How would it know that you really have forgotton to lock it anyway? Simply having a timeout would not always work. Lets say you unlock the car to clean it and then your wife picks up your keys by mistake and goes shopping. If the car automatically locked itself after an hour you'd be cursing with no way to unlock it again until your wife gets back.
B@fink
The d2 auto locks if you unlock but leave the doors shut (i think it assumes you pressed the button by mistake as you walked away) but if you unlock then open a door it stays unlocked until you lock it yourself. PsYcHe
But is that not when it was locked, then unlocked but no doors opened? The D3 does that too (as do most VAGs as my Passats used to).
B@fink
yep......didn't know if D3 did it...if it can be turned on, would it be in that option area? I doubt its possible though, manufacturers don't like giving you the option to lock you're own keys in!
yodauk
I know what you are saying. Sounds a bit stupid having a function to lock your keys in. But take it a step further..... The key uses proximity. Surely the car would know if the keys were that close and not lock. I always keep a spare inside the house anyway but i can understand why the manufacturers wouldn't want this. Just hoping there would be some sort of 'fudge' to get round it. Never mind.... i'll just have to remember to lock my doors from now on. :~}
