TrundleFly
This has started coming on on my 2005 D3 A8 3.0 TDI 2005. It came on a couple of weeks ago when I was pretty sure it was full but I topped it up anyway. I was then parked at an airport for a week and came back, gave my windows a squirt and it came on again. I couldn't see a wet patch under the car so didn't seem to have leaked but maybe it had dried out. So options are it is leaking or there is a sensor playing up. Does anyone know of particular places I can look for a leak or a sensor I can try and do something with. I have looked under the car on the floor a few times and not seen anything but I park on gravel so that would make it difficult.
PsYcHe
Fill it all the way up and then watch it, good chance one of the headlight hoses has popped or burst. Mine had a burst hose for the headlight washers, so all the water flooded out until you got to below the motor for that (still leaves loads in the bottle). Ska
Not sure about the D3 but on D2's the pump is also the level indicator and after a few fill ups of your choice wind screen washer fluid the float becomes clogged and cant err... float any more. Need to strip and clean then all should be fine again.
TrundleFly
Cheers guys, that all gives me something to do at the weekend. Quite why I didn't think to just try filling it up and watch the level I don't know. Sometimes I amaze myself...
grdunn123
I have exactly this problem in my '02 D2, how easy a job is the strip and clean?
Ska
Not too difficult just a bit fiddly. You may need new grommets and the elecy motor always has a degree of corrosion. You can get away with removing the front bumper for access if you don't have headlight washer jets BTW. There's a post on it here with a few pics by Sneaky: http://www.tyresmoke.net/forum/audi-a8-s8/94203-washer-jets-not-working-3.html
TrundleFly
Well I have now found that I have a leak. I filled the bottle up and water starting leaking out from my front right hand side wheel arch. If you think of the arch as the top half of a clock face going from 9 to 3 then it was leaking out at around 2. I think I'll just leave it until it is next in for a service..
