S8 D2 RNS-D TV Tuner Aux Input

Hi all,

Sorry about the confusing thread title, best description I could think of!

I have a 1999 Audi S8 D2 Pre-Facelift for nearly two years, my everyday

car and I really love her to bits!

I recently got myself a new phone (Nokia N900) that supports composite

RCA out, and I was hoping there was an easy-ish way to pipe this into

the RNS-D in my car.

This was a factory fitted RNS-D with BOSE, just in case that changes things.

I read somewhere before (I've been lurking on this forum a while!) that the

TV Tuner has an AUX input (which I can select on the head unit), and

was wondering is there a way to hook into this?

I'm guessing that it's this black box in the boot above the CD changer

Viktoria_Tuner_%26_Changer.jpg

So, is that suspect looking box the TV Tuner, and if so, how do I get at the AUX input?

Also, if I were to run a set of cables from the front of the car back to this tuner box,

is there anything I need to be wary of RE airbags/wiring etc etc?

A 99 pre face car will have an RNS-C, not RNS-D, not that it makes much difference for this purpose.

You have a type A tuner on top there, which is held in to the metal bracket by 4 philips screws.

The Type A tuner has 3 phono inputs on the rear. It couldn't be any easily to plug something in.

The bracket is held down to the body by 4 bolts with a 10mm head. Removing it is fairly straight forward to get access to the rear of the tuner.

Running cables through the car will need the rear seats out, and on a 99 car you will have rear side airbags, so best thing to do is disconnect the battery first then there is very little chance of anything going wrong, plus the car wont register any airbag faults if you disconnect the wiring...

Enjoy +++

Thanks for the fast replies guys, it's very much appreciated.

Sorry about the head unit mix up, I thought I had an RNS-D, looks just

like one!

It's great to hear that it's a pretty straight forward job, only thing I

have to figure out yet is where to put the phone cradle, I'd like to

mount it somewhere that doesn't involve drilling holes in the dash...
