farmerpalmer
decided to have a brief game of MW2 this pm, and after about 10 minutes, my PS3 just turned itself off, with a few beeps. Bu&&er i thought. I have known about the YLOD & RLOD, and i have the original 60gb launch model. It was just a matter of time i suppose. Tried for ages to get it restarted and could not eject the disc. Did not really want to take the thing apart to fix (as per youtube vids), as this is only a temp fix, and it WILL happen again. Took the wifes hairdryer to the back of the ps3 and gave it full blast for 10 mins, plugged in ps3 and after a bit of grief, managed to eject the disc.....relief. At least i do not have to buy another disc....just a ps3 ;-( @ £250 Just ordered another 250 gb ps3 slim, and will collect next week. So , no more ps3 until the new one arrives, as it would be s@ds law that i get the YLOD again permanantly! Hopefully i will be able to transfer all my data to the new ps3 before it goes pop. will keep you posted.
Tipex
Hopefully i will be able to transfer all my data to the new ps3 before it goes pop. How do you do that then? I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my launch model will last forever, as it gets about an hours use every two months, but just incase!
farmerpalmer
There is a backup facility within the ps3 menu. when it is selected, it asks whether to backup to an external drive, or to transfer to a new ps3. i managed to get this far when i restarted my ps3. it then asks, if transferring downloads/ game add on to a new ps3, that you need to deactivate the first ps3, before transferring data to the new ps3. this is done via a network cable. i got to this stage before turning off. hopefully i can get to this point with my new ps :-0 if i falls over, hopefully i can just download new games from playstation store again, but i would like to keep my game saves etc.
fizzbitt
Well with the game saves you can just press the triangle button on the pad when the saved games is selected on screen then copy from there onto a USB stick/device. Ive done this and kept a copy on my PC should anything happen like the YLOD.
m4ttm4son
I have a new External HDD on it's way. Going to try and keep a healthy backup regime on my launch console. Still will be pretty miffed if it dies though. No backwards compatibility and fewer USB slots on the newer ones. Do they have card readers on the new ones? farmerpalmer
well, picked up my 250GB ps3 midweek with a free modnations, i got £15 in clubcard points as well from tescodirect ;-) thankfully transferred all data accross from the old (but now working) ps3. took a while -2 hours to transfer around 40 GB data/ downloads/game saves. Firstly you must deactivate the original ps3, which is easy. All working and able to play purchased downloads etc. Happy Porki5 Formatted original ps3 and reset, so no usable data on original ps3. Will look at the move controllers when they are released in september - copy of the Wii really, but at least i won't have to purchase another console.... will also look at getting a backup drive, just in case ...
