Passat 2006 tdi 140 oil in inlet manifold

Hi im a newbie.

I recently had issues with manifold flap motor as indicated on Vagcom.

Took off tube to flap and disconnected egr and manifold flap in one.

loads of gooey oil on pipe and going into manifold flap and egr and around the inside of the inlet manifold.

gave it all a good clean up, whilst cleaning noticed notchy flap when moved, didnt think anything of it. put it all back and was still getting error on manifold flap. I did notice also my air con had failed also .

Turns out after buying new manifold flap for £170 and putting it in got the same error code of the flap:ffs:, changed the air con fuse which had blown not knowing this fuse also provided power for the manifold flap, fuse 13 10 amp, me thinks in the engine compartment box. All faults on dash now cleared.

Bare with me im trying to keep this short.

Decided to open old manfold flap housing. Low and behold two teeth missing off the main cog and also full of oil each of which could have blown the fuse giving vag alarm.

But im curious where the oil is coming from.

Is it the.

valves / head

the egr valve

or up through from the intake/ intercooler, doubtfull.

Beats me.

Ha ha!

Welcome to TSN - give us time old boy.........

Sometimes even I ask a question and get no response....... ;)

How many miles has your Passat done?

The thing with the 2006 2.0 TDi is that they eat oil pumps which then kills the engine due to oil starvation to the extremities.

Have a look at a thread from Tipex on his fleet of Passat 140's.......

Or PM him for details of his issues, which sounds vaguely similar to yours.

But, I suspect your oil pump.

Had similar issues with my old Audi, was under warranty so cost not involved. Same symptoms, eml lamp on etc, egr replaced - fault came back 5 weeks later, both manifold flaps replaced (was a V6 Tdi) fault reappeared 6 weeks later. I should add that on each occasion the intake manifold was clean out. Head scratching, and many questions asked of Audi technical, after a visit from Audi MK, result - fit new turbo. Fault cleared for remainder of ownership (3yrs and 25K)

Intake manifold motor is not an uncommon problem this model year... and yes blows said fuse in E-box new motor and the dear old fuse sorts it.Those 2 teeth that are missing......needs these missing for its basic setting/reference point in the flap motor. (unless you found the 2 missing parts?) Overfilling on engine oil can cause excess oil in inlet, intercooler side of things but its really not an issue to worry about as normally you get some residue etc there.

  • 2 weeks later...

thanks for the replies

Passat 2.0 140 TDI BKP 120,000 miles

There were two teeth rolling around in the manifold flap housing which was probably the problem.

I now get this vag code, not sure if its the N75 or the N249(not sure if it has one)

16683 - Boost Pressure Regulation: Control Range Not Reached

P0299 - 006 - Short to Plus - Intermittent

Turbo spins up nice waste gate seems also to do its job.

It is ok around town happens on longer journeys say 20-30 miles.

Hello there can you PM me or give me the exact code as i have a code 00665 which is VW one then for the P code P0299 below boost pressure control limit. This my friend is transfer resistance in the wiring loom for the boost pressure sensor /map sensor located at the site nearest the aircon compressor.Check MVB 10 in engine electronics.....fields 2 + 3 with engine off but ignition on. You should see field 2= atmospheric pressure 900-1100 (mbar) filed 3= actual boost pressure 900-1150 (mbar) if there is a deviation of more than +or- 50 (mbar) between the 2 fields replace the 4 pin wiring harness part number 1KD 971 658 not just the wires it does not work!!! Clean all the earths in the engine compartment by the battery, nearside front headlamp and the ones under the plenum chamber by the ecu thoroughly and i mean do it pukka!!!! You are gonna need to fit the wires to the 94 pin ecu plug if you know what you are doing.......trust me it aint for the faint hearted :ffs:and for a skilled technician. The only thing after is you need to get the retailer to do an engine software update after as well.............PM me +++

I will pm the exel log of the idle and slow reving, see what you make of it.

I wouldnt mind on short journeys the car runs fine, but in 6th gear on a run after about 25-30 miles the car goes to limp mode.

Sorry thats if your value with the ENGINE OFF BUT IGNITION ON.....exceeds 50 mbar deviation........if not proceed with turbo checking Variable Vanes sticking internally on turbo and all associated pipework had the same fault today and my value was a deviation of 21 mbar. The turbo is FOOKED........but alas strip it if you know how and clean it of have a go with this stuff.....Innotec Supplies Ltd. - Turbo Clean Set I have heard good reports about it but never used it myself.

All depends on your skill level.....Regards Tidy
