Vx's Used car 'Lifetime Warranty' scheme

Vauxhall's 'lifetime' used warranty - Autocar.co.uk

Seems a good idea and will build some confidence into their used car market and marketing campaign.

The warranty will cover you UPTO 100K miles, with no ongoing age limit - as long as it's serviced by Network Q and under 12 months old & 30K miles when bought from them.

I presume it only covers Vx's though.

But still, it's a start, judging by how reliable some cars can be these days.

They do a few good motors and the warranty is no worse than anyone else in relation to exclusions.

I hope more follow their lead, BMW, Audi, Lexus etc. offer inferior warranties to Kia, Vauxhall and a few others maybe they don't have the confidence the cars will last as well?

I read a thread somewhere slating Vauxhall's warranty, I recall something about a massive list of exclusions and it only applies to the first registered owner or something...

They don't make anythin that appeals to me, so I don't know much about it.

This is also for used Vx's from their own Network Q chain.

New Astra and Insignia are good cars now.

I think it's a nice to have but wouldn't be the main driver to selecting the car.

My sister is a fan of VX and has had various Corsa, Astra and Vectras and they have been no worse than the VAG cars I've had considering they are half the price plus easy to pick up pre-registered to save a bit more.

We all know that VAG dealers service can be cr@p but believe me it's nothing to some of the basic issues I've seen in her experince of VX service

Had a new Astra as a hire car and was surprised how good it was.

Saying that when I bought my SEAT Toledo in 1999 one of the things that I did like was that at that time SEAT offered a full 3yr / unlimited mileage warranty instead of the 60k miles offered now. When the discs warped at 70k miles they replaced them FOC just had to pay for the pads which impressed me as they could easily have said wear and tear.

Well true on some aspects but Id rather have a VAG group car as i feel its a sound investment as most hold their value.....MK 5 Golfs are going back up for some reason in value???

The whole reason and im not sure any of you know this but keeping the full VW retailer servicing up to at least 48 to 60 months.....BRAND loyalty they call it they do offer factory GOODWILL sometimes 100% and ive seen it upto 72 months with a 50% contribution on some things!!!

For arguments sake Passat diesel injectors they are common these days (2 litre PPI) ABS units on MK 5 Golf, Touran + Jetta it pays sometimes. No car is infallible they all have quirks/problems.

Im sorry there with the Honda my friend, ive seen the list of problems/recalls the new Honda Civic has got and has had........give me an old Civic Vtec or an old AE86 Toyota Corolla coupe any day! Now those were Bloody reliable!!!!!!!++++++++++++

Last year I had an Insignia Estate, Golf Estate, Passat estate and out of the 3 I'd choose the insignia, it was far and away the better mile cruiser - mainly because I did about 25k in each car and the Insignia had no unscheduled stops in the dealer, Golf had 3 and Passat 1.

In the past probably about 50 of my cars have been Vauxhalls and I've never had anything like the issues Ive had with VAG cars for niggly little issues that shouldnt exist.

What were the niggles?

Sorry still would not have a Vauxhall if you gave it to me. Just had a comparison against the new 2011 Passat with the Insignia BMW, A4, Skoda and Mondeo........all diesels and the Insigna sounded like a tractor and looked cheap,i thought they were alloy wheels but they were wheel trims. BMW ok i suppose i do like the nice long looking bonnet thats all that does it for me.Skoda im afraid to say is still a good car despite what anybody says i like em. Passat has evolved a lot and looked and felt good too. Time will tell i suppose.....

The derv engine in the insignia is a Fiat unit. Sounds rattly, bulletproof though.

I'd have an Insignia - I like the look of them. BMW - no, I don't like the look. A4 Avant - yes. Passat - yes. But then these are all a mix of prices and size/specs.

Only one of my Vx's gave me grief and that was an F-reg model Cavalier CD years back! (but then again, I liked the V6 Mk II Vectras...........

Bullet proof my ass!!!!! Ive been building/rebuilding engines for 20 plus years.....it is certainly not one of FIAT's strongest points. FIAT stands for,

Fix

It

Again

Today.......or you could put Tomorrow

The 2.0litre red top 16 valve engine Vauxhall did now that was stunning virtually BOMB proof.

OK ok ok ill let you into a little secret........i owned a Cavalier 1983 in a real shitty brown colour but i stoved the whole drivers side in, Whoops

Have you had any of the new 2.0 VX CDTI in at all for rebuilds? Intrigued as all the tests i've seen on them have shown them to be largely solid. (nb - they're not an entirely fiat unit, but the GM italia powertrain stuff is jointly done with fiat.) They're certainly a lot better than the isuzu lumps vx used to stick under the bonnet.

No im afraid i have not....... as i dont really do any machining or rebuilding of all makes/models any more.I have rebuilt loads its fair to say and still do the strip to investigate what has gone wrong, but the units are then renewed as complete or short blocks etc.

I work for a VW retailer and the PD were good but CRD blue motion technology is stunning, world class even. Won loads of awards and just set a world record for just over 1500 miles to a tank of fuel.

The Golf just won an award for cheapest to run over the Prius and i think greenest too? I will try and confirm tomorrow.Yea all manufacturers suffer issues im very wise to that and not afraid to admit that either thy all have there quirks

Oh dear...

It's all gone horribly wrong for Vauxhall.

The ASA have banned all previously publicised elements of their Lifetime Warranty campaign.:roflmao:

TV adverts, posters and online media have all been the subject of complaint to the ASA and the complaints have been upheld with the ruling being that the campaign cannot be ran again in its current format. Oops.

So if you bought a Vauxhall on the strength of the advertising of the warranty, and they've now been stopped from using that advertising, where would you stand legally with regard to the warranty?

I'd guess the small print will negate your right to a proper lifetime warranty, but it'd be interesting to see if anyone challenges it.

GMUK's lawyers haven't done too bad a job on it, with only 2 of the 5 complaints upheld by the ASA. The original ads were fairly cleverly worded to try and avoid this sort of thing, but clearly it hasn't worked. I'm not sure the campaign will return in as much of a big way, given that it will be so diluted, though the scheme itself will still run.

as for who needs shooting, that'll probably be richard hughes, head of marcomms. Hes only been in the job since June, and I think this is the first campaign he's been fully responsible for. OOPS!
