Tiptronic does not move up and down gears evenly

I own a Boxster 3.2S registered in 2000. I have owned it since 2002 and it is used as a "3rd" fun car, its main job being to tour Europe twice a year. Its only done 50k miles in total and has had until 2 years ago, main dealer service. Last 2 years its been serviced by Porsche Specialists.

For the past 6 years!! (from about 15kmiles) the gearbox has been reluctant to go up to 5th gear. About 4 out of 5 times it does not go up, but that still leaves approx 20% of the time when it goes up and down ok!

When it kicks down however it does NOT go back up again. Every time I take it into the garage, they look at it, charge me but say they cannot find any faults on the diagnostics. The main dealer wanted to change the module £1300 +vat and fitting!!!- which I declined. I have however bought a second hand module from a breaker for £100 but no good.

I am now used to driving it with a mixture of auto and manual and quite frankly it doesn't bother me that much.

The mechanics have confirmed that if I am happy to do this, then its not going to affect the box. I am however considering selling the car and getting something different.

It will not be a Porsche as this car, whilst absolutely wonderful to drive has cost me a fortune ( all new suspension arms, new aircon, new hood mechanism, leaking seals, engine to gearbox, leaking " oil tubes to injectors , (whatever they are) defective electrics re spoiler, overheating problems (after 6 years only found out by independent specialist to be a defective "third "engine fan which they state has never worked from new) and many many more!!

To return to my problem, I dont want to sell it with this defect:

a. Has anybody else experienced this problem with the Tiptronic?

b. Has anybody any ideas on how to deal with it

Many thanks
