loddrik
As it has also been stated in 'magazines', the Haldex is excellent at what it does, but the Haldex provides security and traction, cars such as Impreza's and their ilk use 4wd for hadling balance. If the R32 used the same system as an Impreza or an EVO, I think you'd find it'd handle even better. This forum is becomming like scoobynet in that there seems to be a slightly blinkered view, I am glad you all like your R32's, and it is a nice car, but at the end of the day it is what it is and it does what it does and some of the comments on here have been plain bizzare. My advice would be to go on to the Autocar website and mail Colin Goodwin in the 'Ask Goodwin' page, I think we can all agree that he knows a bit more about cars than nearly all of us, and ask him some of the haldex issues, and which car drives better, I think you may not be too happy with the response you get. loddrik
From Top Gear magazine [ QUOTE ] So, heavy on the gas and, at £22,340 in the UK, the R32 will present a sizeable investment for the 700 Brits who'll take delivery between now and the end of 2003. Yes, it undercuts the Audi S3, but the Golf doesn't quite carry the same cachet, and it certainly doesn't have the driving edge that Imprezas and Evos offer. BLOCK
well at least it was quicker round their test track than the wrx
Smudge
Guys, I think we're trying to compare Oranges & Lemons here. As Simon points out, the R32 would be a different car if it was the same set up as a Scooby, ie 50:50 4wd, 2.0ltr turbo etc etc, and vice versa. The cars are completely different except from the fact that they are both performance cars. I would have bought a Scooby, if the total package was as I wanted it. I don't mean just performance, I don't see how anyone can grumble over a stock WRX, R32, P1 etc etc etc. They are all good cars. But we all have a choice, and we all have a preference. That's why Simon loves his Scooby, and us R32 owners love them too. Q. for everyone. If the Scooby is so poor, why does Subaru consistently out perform everyone when Top Gear do their survey? And this years results prooved that VW are loosing their grip and only surviving on their past. It's all sbjective & down to personal tatse. If my circumstances change, a Scooby may well be the right car for me. But as it is, the R32 is about right. Guys, bottom line, lets loose the bitching & keep TsN as it should be? Al. Soulboy
We could always overthrow the Government, turn the country communist and get matching Trabants! That would solve any difference of opinions.
JIG_999
Smudge, As the guy who started this thread, I agree with everything you have stated. This debate could run and run; however, at the end of the day Smudge has said it all. No car can win the debate (argument) outright! Now back to my original dilemma, which one do I buy????? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!

scooby_simon
Both.... Scooby 4 U R32 for G/F or wife..... Sorta happend like that for us : I wanted a Scooby, we also needed a larger car as we were planning a family..... What actually happened is we got the Audi (A4 Avant 2.8 ) and it's great, leather seats, more toys than a toy shop etc. As my last car got smashed up by me......Then our finances improved so I got my dream Scooby - with little hassle form the Wife as she had here car first ! Two totally different cars but I them both......
gammaray27
Someone asked.. I get most of my info from the VWVortex website. It has TONS of accurate info on it. SO many people are on it, with so many different sources pulling together information. On top of that, Jamie the guy that runs the site is in good with VW to get first hand information, and VWVortex was key in getting the R32 to the US shores in the first place by means of petition via VWVortex.
