Does anyone know what you can put into the USB in the Glovebox. I have the full i Drive system but cannot get any music to load into the HDD. Have tried alsorts but doesnt seem to pick anything up

It say in Manual US Mass Storage but I though all USB's were this???

Stick my Ipod in using the standard cable and it charges it but doesnt pick it up at all music or sound

I only have the Aux jack by the armrest

Without trying to state the obvious, when he iPod is in, have you selected USB option on your stereo?

My USB and aux ports are under the armrest but I don't have nav. I have the pro hifi with individual selection for standard radio, dab, cd, aux and USB

The USB socket in the glovebox is for USB Memory sticks with music (mp3, etc) on and to transfer to the iDrive HDD using the MUSIC menu.

To connect an iPod to iDrive you need a USB/3.5mm Jack "Y-Lead". This should plug into a USB socket under the armrest which has an AUX 3.5mm socket next to it.

Yup, thats what happens in MrsMe's X5 (though I'll confess we didn't know until 2 days ago you could transfer music from a USB stick). MrsMe just plugs her iPhone into the armrest socket and it's all very intutitive on iDrive from there.

I've also discovered the X5 has Combox and stuff - so we can control the car (to an extent) from an iPhone app. Lock it, unlock it, flash the lights etc - from anywhere in the world. I'm not sure quite how useful that could be but I guess if you can't remember if you've locked your car or not it could be quite handy.

  • 9 months later...

Drove one this week as it happens, pull very well. Best way I can describe it is it's as fast as a Golf GTi, but because it doesn't rev very high, 100 feels like 80... if that makes sense, returned 40mpg average too, where an S3/GTi would have been half that doing the same.

Evolve and others do a map that take it from c200bhp to 260bhp and the torque increase it huge! :)

Very impressive engine, chassis was excellent too...

Was this the 25D or the 23D Paul?

123d Coupe MSport, so the older 2.0 twin turbo. Car was a year old and had 8.5k on the clock.

Not driven the new 1 series yet.

Cheers mate, the new one could quick but are the new ECU's tuneable? are there new restrictions in there somewhere.+++

The new ECU's haven't been played with yet (I asked last week :) ), but I heard they had a new encryption that would notify BMW GmbH if 'played with'. Could be scare mongering though.

Looks like the TDI Box of some sort then, any recommendations on these.

I've not used any of the more expensive boxes, used a c£50 one on a VW TDi PD engine before and the only thing it seamed to do is make the throttle more sensitive... in fact... pretty much made it full on or off.

I know GizzE has used them, probably worth dropping him a PM. You looking at a new 25d then?

I read somewhere that BMW want to extend their performance product range, what better way than employing technology that means many people would be 'forced' into their products to retain warrenty, etc so remap and the car logs the event and notifies at next service!

Not a problem for Tipex, he could get one for the wife as he never bothers with a service.

If you saw the car, you'd know why we don't bother servicing it, it's only a matter of time before it either explodes, or rots in two.

And I'd eat my hat if any form of tuning device could gain any more power out of it's 1.0 engine of power!
