drumstick
please can anyone shed any light on this problem i have. my A6 quattro avant's front wiper got a bit lathargic the other day, today it stopped on the up stroke half way up the screen. after a short while i pressed the one wipe and it lowered a little then i pressed it again and it went back to the start position. i have since tried to operate them while stood at the side of the car and helped them along a little with my hand. when i did this the wipers went through a complete cycle. is this a f***ed up motor or some thing else? have took of the cover and seen where the motor is and it looks a real bastard to get to to change. any one got any experience of this? cheers:ffs:
cruiser647
Yes, we have experience of this. Your motor is fine, it's the linkage. Wifey's A6 2.7T had the same issue. It manifested itself over quite a while as I had always noticed the wipers were slow, but they worked. This was a year ago. Then recently, she said they had stopped completely, yet when I tested them they were fine. Anyway, they stopped again and this time I liberally sprayed them with WD-40, after removing the water tray under the bonnet. They sprang to life. But then stopped again. MY VAG man said it would need a new linkage, so it was done. Cost me £180. All is now good. Get it done sooner rather than later when you need them! (or Rain X!!) Good luck. PS - when I was testing it, I could feel the resistance and then 'helped' the wipers when they were moving. I did not push them if they did not want to move though. drumstick
Thanks old chap. I'll look in to it. Was the £180 parts and labour? Or was it a DIY job. Thanks again for the insight.
eldavo69
I did this on my wife's B6 A4. New linkage was about £60 from TPS and not a difficult DIY. You'll probably need to buy a new scuttle cover as well as they are easily broken but they are only about £10-15. Am sure there are some guides online somewhere. drumstick
Cheers for all the info. Have given the linkage a damn good clean with wd40 and smeared white grease all over anything that moves. So far they have worked on request. Will keep my eye on them for signs of slow movement
eldavo69
The new part is updated and has a rubber seal to stop the problem reoccurring.
