please can anyone shed any light on this problem i have. my A6 quattro avant's front wiper got a bit lathargic the other day, today it stopped on the up stroke half way up the screen. after a short while i pressed the one wipe and it lowered a little then i pressed it again and it went back to the start position. i have since tried to operate them while stood at the side of the car and helped them along a little with my hand. when i did this the wipers went through a complete cycle.

is this a f***ed up motor or some thing else? have took of the cover and seen where the motor is and it looks a real bastard to get to to change. any one got any experience of this?

cheers:ffs:

Yes, we have experience of this.

Your motor is fine, it's the linkage. Wifey's A6 2.7T had the same issue. It manifested itself over quite a while as I had always noticed the wipers were slow, but they worked. This was a year ago. Then recently, she said they had stopped completely, yet when I tested them they were fine. Anyway, they stopped again and this time I liberally sprayed them with WD-40, after removing the water tray under the bonnet. They sprang to life. But then stopped again. MY VAG man said it would need a new linkage, so it was done.

Cost me £180. All is now good.

Get it done sooner rather than later when you need them! (or Rain X!!)

Good luck.

PS - when I was testing it, I could feel the resistance and then 'helped' the wipers when they were moving. I did not push them if they did not want to move though.
