gadgetmind
Our 2006 D3 A8 has suddenly started losing all audio to the front right speakers. An MMI reset fixes it, but a day or so later, it dies again. Vagcom shows no stored fault codes other than "02272 - Quiescent Current Stage 1" for the battery regulator, and that was back in May. Any ideas? If it's the amplifier, can I swap it myself or does it have the component protection? How can I tell which amp I need? The log say - Address 47: Sound System Labels: Redir Fail! PsYcHe
Do you have Bose stickers? If not, then you just need the standard amp. You'll likely be hit with component protection, but it could be a sticky speaker, not sure how many speakers the 'standard' option has in that corner. Also, A8parts have quite a few D3's breaking. Or put the part no into ebay to see what else you get.
gadgetmind
No Bose stickers. Sticky speaker not really plausible given that the MMI "nerve pinch" gets it all going again. Will look for new amp, but symptoms seem deeply odd - I'm an embedded guy and I'm not sure how the amp can have got itself into a state such that further volume/mute commands don't fit it. PsYcHe
Maybe a dodgy capacitor or something on the amp. There are a few floating about on eBay.
gadgetmind
Could be. If it does it again, I'll first of all pull it out and check for dry joints and/or suspicious capacitors. Failing that, I'll fit a new one and then try and talk a dealer into "blessing" it.
