A4 2002 Fuel pump

Hi - My A4 2002 with 2 liter ALT engine has run into some fuel pump problems. Its making a loud humming sound since the past few weeks. I took it to the garage who said there is no need to replace at the moment as it could runs for thousands of miles more. I got the Fuel filter replaced anyway since it was cheap to do so.

Two days ago the car wouldnt start. The RAC guy came and diagnosed it as a fuel pump issue. He couldnt get access to the pump but a whack to the tank with a deadblow hammer worked (funny). Car has been running since then.

I am thinking of biting the bullet and changing the pump myself. Anyone know part numbers for this pump? I have 8E0 919 051 CJ from Audi - but cant seem to find any online retailer selling this part. There is a 8E0 919 051 CR on ebay - but I dont know if these are interchangeable. Where can I buy a pump cheaper than the 276 quoted by Audi?

Also would anyone agree - I should simply take the pump out, check for debris, give it a clean and put it back? Anyone has experience on this?

Hi!

Not sure at all with fuel pumps. Or even sticking your hand into the tank to remove/clean/check/replace the pipes/pump. You'll need to be very careful eitherway with all those fumes.
